  • trainer recently started having us use weights

After tonight its been about 2 and a half weeks. My trainer has been having us do a lot of weight lifting drills. Not maxing out or anything like that just a lot of reps and a lot of sets doing different drills. Then when we are done we do all are other drills for boxing.

First i got sore as hell i couldnt believe it the whole first week. I didnt like it my arms and legs felt sore and heavy. Then i started healing up and im not getting sore anymore. Now i feel like a monster lol. My body feels so much stronger all together. My arms have gotten bigger i think but i havent gained any weight at all. My speed feels the same. I feel the same all over but i just feel so strong.

I know its only been 2 and half weeks but im really liking the results ive been getting. Its brutal training but its worth it im going to hurt someone next time i fight!lol.

Ive always been against lifting weights but man if you do it right it can do wonders.

Are you balancing it out with speed training?

yea, the trainer really knows what hes doing. Ray Oliveira, pretty accomplished fighter. He beat Vince Phillips and Vivian Harris. Hes also been in there with guys like Ricky Hatton, Ben Tackie, and Vernon Forrest.

But yea he has us doing all kinds of drills. He switched it up on us all the time. Every Thursday we do some corny areobics class thing for an hour but it works good. Everything is basically the same but now we do some lifting drills before we do everything else.

I rely a lot on my speed so losing my speed was a huge worry of mine. But i feel just as fast as before just a lot stronger. Maybe its too early to tell but so far im feeling good.

You know the whole "high reps, low weights" thing is a myth?

If you wanna increase muscle then do 3 sets of 8 reps of a heavy weight and balance it out with speed training and a high protein diet.

          I dont wanna increase muscle.

Im doing fine. Im 100% satisfied with the results im getting with the drills my trainer is having me do. I do whatever he tells me to do. Im not working out in my garage and experiment with ideas. My trainer tells me to do something and i do it.

good man, you should only gain muscle if you intentionally try to by overeating (bulking). and even then, without steroids, you aren't going to get big. what the trainer is trying to accomplish is for you to build strength, not muscle, there's a difference.

I never understood why boxers are against weightlifting it doesnt slow you down if you do it right and you gain explosiveness and strength.

There really is no reason not to lift weights if your boxing

Yeah just make sure you stretch up well after training, doing too much before weights can diminish the benefits. Good to see your liking the weights and realising you should check yourself if a theory works rather than just believing peoples advice.

If you want to keep a specific weight, really increasing muscle massively is a no no really. Our gym does weight lifting with these like weight bag thingys, so we can do squats etc.
