  • The most grief you've got as a boxer

Not sure if this belongs here but it looks like this is the only forum to discuss boxing which isnt world wide.

But whats the most annoying thing you hear when you tell people you're a boxer or say any ****** lines you've heard?

I dont participate in boxing (just a fan) but im a blackbelt in tae kwon do and i always get ****** comments like 'YOUR A BLACK BELT?!?! OMG THAT MEANS YOU COULD LIKE BREAK ME IN HALF!!!'

Although different is it similar in boxing? Could imagine people picking fights alot

"I could kick your ass in a street fight"

Typical thing to hear when people know you're a boxer.

I get **** for being a girl. When I first started boxing, people's reactions seriously shocked me. I didn't realise it was so taboo and I have learned more about cultural values and social perspectives on gender through boxing than anything else.

I definitely don't want to make any statements and it is not my business to change other people's attitudes. I just box because it makes me feel good.

Generally speaking, it seems that people believe guys are supposed to be big strong warriors and chicks need to hang around dragons wearing short skirts waiting to be rescued. I'm actually fine with this. But I'll do the waiting when their are enough warriors around to start rescuing.

most grief ive got was a 3 punch body shot combination from tiger survivor taylor but at the same time it taught me the importance of possessing a strong left hook (which his is)

but seriously what bugs the **** out of me is that one guy who sometimes will call u champ...i hate hearing that

markeeta, just be defensive and don't get a flat nose..

I actually get no heat from it i find that more ppl end up saying something along the lines of, "Oh man yea i use to box" or "yea i always wanted to box" or "man my hands are so crazy, i ve been in so many fights, i ve never lost either." Pretty much all amusing to me

I used to get it a lot back in the days when I kickboxed. Apparently, a bar brawler is harder to hit than a trained fighter and a trained fighter can only win a fight that is in a ring! I **** you not, that was actually said to me in a bar in England.
A friend of mine growing up used to get it a lot worse than me and even olympic bronze, commonwealth gold and the WBC middleweight title wasn't proof that he could take out your average bar fighter. There is always some hero who think's he can impress his mates/girlfriend by getting his ass handed to him in 5 seconds flat

a lot of people don't expect me to be a boxer, more of a gang ****er. i don't tell peeps in general the only peeps that know are my gym friends. sometimes i jump rope, shadow, and do drills in front of my house and my neighbors just stare, half the time in a bad way, and half the time they just plain stare like if they are being entertained. its whatever though, i just worry about my self and getting better, **** the rest.

I don't tell anyone, the only people who know are my gym friends and family.
I started late at 30 years old.
People would not expect me to do boxing I am an I.T geek.
My family thinks its great, my brothers and parents both think it's helped me get out of my shell.

But people in general don't understand, they see it as a brutal bloodthursty sport.
They don' see the skill, the drive the hard work it takes.

Most of the things I get are people trying to be tough (out on the weekend) or you get people telling you there history how they "could have been a good boxer as they have heavy hands" or something like that. It's alright at first until you actually start getting really annoyed with all the future RJJ's out there. Now I just say I dont do any sport when people ask, no point arguing with idiots, they just bring you down to there level and beat you with experience.
