I personally feel the speed ball borders on useless. In my opinion, its only legitimate use is showing off. There are better ways to fatigue your shoulder and build endurance. There are better ways to build boxing specific coordination. I think it is a waste of time. Time much better spent on a double ended bag.
Lol....yea that just solidified that neither one of you know what ur talking about as far as boxing. If you actually knew how to use the speed bag you would know that it is one of the most important tools of a boxer besides the heavy bag.
it seemed to help me with depth perception, timing, endurance and speed (a little). The best thing about the speedbag is its alot of fun. I used to do 10 rounds on it every day for that reason.
Lol, in my opinion your all argueing about a gym tool and how many skills you can learn from it, in heins sight it only plays a little part in training. theres alot of other equipment for training specific skills, the speed ball is just one of them. i wouldnt rely on it just use it on occasions
my oppionion
As for the thread. Speed bag work is good but it's really only a suplement to your training and shouldn't be taking too much time out of your training schedule as there are much more important things. Personally i do about 6 rounds of speed bag a week, basically 2 rounds 3 days a week and it's just fine for me. More would be useless.
Like others already said the speed bag will help with: Rhythm, Hand-Eye Coordination and muscle endurance.
Personally i find the double end bag more useful and it works 2 of the thing the speed bag does(Rhythm and Hand-Eye Coordination) in a way that is much more needed for a boxer, as you are throwing "real" punches while working the double end bag.
the 10 rounds on the speedbag was a "cool down" for me. It was the last thing I did b4 abs, i still did my typical 5 rounds on everything else except 4 skipping (20 mins), weave rope (2-3) and uppercut bag (0-3).
