HOWEVER if he goes the healthy(meaning good food sources) high fat/high protein/moderate carbs way and also trains he will grow much much muscle without actually gaining any serious fat..
And even that, velocity diet actually provides body with all the nutrients it needs to keep the muscle and be very insulin sensitive due to smaller amount of carbs and the timing of the meals. He is not starving his body, just his mind.

Take it from someone who tried almost every single diet from ketonic to caveman to velocity, they all work, its just that with velocity the whole plan is worked out for you.
