possibly true to some extent, but they are white and irish. and fun to watch.

anybody that thinks duddy, lee, or vera are bums should stop watching boxing.

does peekaboo just mean keeping your hands up high?
my trainer is so strict with that, one of the ex-pros gives me a slap when i do pads and dont get my left hand straight up again after a jab

Peek-a-boo is a defensive style used primarily by boxers who fight small. The fundamentals of boxing apply to everybody. You have probably heard your trainer carp on: chin down, guard up, move your head. Those are the fundamentals of defense which everybody should do, but how you do it is a question of style. A man who fights small will usually keep his gloves glued to his face just low enough so that he can see over them, hence the term peek-a-boo. Your trainer should have also told you to keep your eyes on your opponent at all times. Extending your gloves up to cover your eyes is not peek-a-boo, it is merely a ****** way to block a punch. The correct way to avoid getting hit, for a man using peek-a-boo, is to employ lateral head movement from the waist.

No matter what your style is, all jabs should go the shortest way there and the shortest way back.

what kind of stance would you recommend for someone who is very tall. My trainer trys to train me the way he trains all his other fighters. The problem is that I'm 6'7" and most of the guys at my gym are short. So he has us all holding our hands up high. too high IMO. I dont feel natural at all. I try to listen to him thinking that he know what is best for me but I seem to have a hard time defending the body with my arms up so high.

The stance he teaches has me holding my left hand about 6 away from my face and level with my eyes. my left hand is actually about 6 inches higher than my left. I guess he is thinking that is good for defending up top but when I throw a jab at any of the guys and they do block it they usually end up eating there own left hand. For me it seem more natural to leave my left hand about 8 or 10 inches off my chest and a few inches lower than my shoulder and my right tucked next the right hand side of my jaw.

I rarely get hit in the head cause I can usually stay out of anyones reach but when the distance is closed then my body pays the price. Most body shots dont seem to bother me but the other day one landed when I must have been too relaxed and breathing out at the same time. Hit my right in the ribs and forced me to take a knee. it was like I lost my breath... 2 seconds later the pain kicked in and then the embarasment kicked in. liver shot I guess.

Basicly... whats the best way to defend the body... for a tall guy. any tips

Use your elbows. There are a couple of guys in my gym your size. When I spar them, they use a modified peekaboo guard and a squarish stance, knuckles by their chin, and they use body movement and footwork to block body shots with their forearms and elbows. The square(er) stance helps them pivot, sidestep, and otherwise redirect when a shorter guy comes in.

The only way I can get a head shot is to throw an overhand, which they can see a mile away.

Conversely, I keep my knuckles up over my eyebrows when fighting someone that big, because I don't have to worry as much about body shots (except the uppercut.) I throw long combos with lots of feints to try and get those arms out of place. Sparring a really tall guy is exhausting.

I would not be keeping your left that far away from your face. You are just asking to eat a lead hook.

You want your hand a inch or two away, and you should be able to look over the top of your glove, on your left hand. When someone throws a right you want bring your hand up, and out another inch or two to block it.

I personally do not use a "peekaboo" defense. I use more of a philly shell with my left hand around my belt line. I use my shoulders alot for blocking and lean/roll with punches.

I would say go with what works for you, and if something doesn't work, you need to adapt quickly in a fight.

If I notice I am eating to much using a Philly shell, then I will go with a peekaboo defense, or in close I will go crossbody. I am 5'7 at 132 so most of the fighters I fight are shorter then me. So I prefer the philly shell because of how I snap my jab and it allows ME to throw the type of hook I throw faster.

It is all a matter of preferance and what works for you. Somethings work well for one person, but not so well for another. Do what suits you best, but always be able to adapt. As with anything.
