Speed is largely a function of perception. The easiest and most effective way to increase apparent handspeed is to strip away excess motion. Work on throwing your jab and your cross without any windup or telegraphing whatsoever. When you shadowbox, pay extra-close attention to your movements before and after you strike. The jab is not a heavy punch and it doesn't have to be loaded up. It is a stinging punch, not a crushing punch. "Pushing" a jab will make it seem slow, and trying to throw a hard jab will also slow it down.

yea I was going to say try working out with some resistance bands, the rubber stretchy bands you can immitate punches with, that way when you throw a real punch it's alot easier and quicker.
