i always thought i would be a big puncher then when i hit the gym i realised my form when i throw a punch was pathetic. Ive just sorted this out and sparred for the first time friday gone and stopped my first sparring partner with an overhand right which landed on his temple. So for me the jury is still out to whether i have power. Made me feel like i had big nuts tho!!

i was boxing when i was young then i stopped for about 3-4 years with college and girlfriends and money getting in the way but i had a record of 16-0 with 12 KO i also got told that i had tremendus punching power for me weight and age i was 15 and was/still welterweight. i am currently getting fit and looking for a gym (i moved durring my time off) then i will consider going to it then

I never felt and never do feel like I have good power...but apparently I punch relativly hard.

I think its bad to think that you got power...makes you box less.

i am not a huge fan of making the bag "fly."

I knocked down the guy I was sparring with, and since then me and him have had quite the sparring wars, were the only guys in the gym that go all out on eachother and everytime we spar. People stop to take a look at whats gunna happen. We have shed a lot of blood between us and nearly KO'd eachother more than enough times. I am usaully on the receving end, but when you can take that abuse in sparring, a fight with seem like a light workout.
sounds like you have no problem with the fear of being hit. it is nice to do hard sparring once in a while. but, if you keep up that level of intensity on a regular basis, it will have a bad effect on you over time.

It was actually vice verse for me.

I had tito like built(when I was 14-15) and was very surprised when my trainer kept on complimenting me on my power and handspeed. And yeah, punching was something I got rather easily under my "skill belt". Did everything perfectly after a couple of month, with proper bodymechnics.

Now, my defense and footwork were quite bad until I was maybe 17-18.

As far as I was trained when I was working the bag my goal was to make the bag to bend in without moving, that actually shows that you are puching the bag and not pushing it.

yes. that is a good place to start with developing explosive energy. next stage is work on penetrating power and make the bag shake and vibrate violently without having the bag swing much.

I know what you are talking about and that is much harder, especially with a singe shot(which is obviously an indicator of how well you do) And for me the bag did not really swing, but it rolled around(like earth) after some especially crisp punches.
