Once I started boxing and had to learn how to throw a "real" punch -- jab, cross, hook, uppercut -- I hit like a schoolgirl for the first few months. That was emotionally devastating. But now I work with someone on the pads or in the ring and they say, "Man, nice jab!" "Heavy hands!"It only took two years. . . .

It happened to me. I used to think that I had good punching power, until I went in the arcades and punching that thing that measures your power. I could only achieve a 600 score, while I saw several people including 13-year olds hitting 800 and 900. But I am not quitting boxing just because of this, lol.

i was the opposite, because people always told me i'd be ****, i thought i was pillow fisted until i started boxing. i'm a quiet guy until i get the gloves on and get into the ring, then it's absolute rage. when i started boxing, i found out i have power, i knocked a kid out with 1 punch, and everybody that fought me got busted up, even if i lost a decision... i'm like an uglier version of nigel benn ( less skilled ), i haven't sparred in over 3 years but i still train, and i can still move the 100 lb bag around just like i used to

It was the oposite for me. I didnt think I would have much punching power to work with. Throughout my early training I thought that too. Until the first time I sparred. I was getting my ass kicked most of the time, untill in the third round I threw a cross left hand (im southpaw) that would forever chance my confidence with my power.
I knocked down the guy I was sparring with, and since then me and him have had quite the sparring wars, were the only guys in the gym that go all out on eachother and everytime we spar. People stop to take a look at whats gunna happen. We have shed a lot of blood between us and nearly KO'd eachother more than enough times. I am usaully on the receving end, but when you can take that abuse in sparring, a fight with seem like a light workout.
For the record I have never been knocked down :P

When I got into it.. I didn't really know I was left handed..
I was taught to write with a pencil in my right hand yes..and shoot right handed.. etc.. but for instance.. when i shoot a gun.. i always wanna put my left foot back.. :-/
Finally someone noted to me that i am naturally left handed.. and that i need to take it and fly with it..
once i noted my my strengths, and techniques, my jabs became REALLLY strong ( right hand jab ) because of all the physical things i LEARNED to do with it.. and my left being my NATURAL hand.. i throw a HARD cross too... and being I learned ALOT of things with my right.. hOOKs came REAL easy.. everything just flowed..
I'll put a video of bag work up soon (100lb)
