The best mouthguards are the ones made by your dentist. Be prepared to pay $400 or so; that's about what I paid.

My vote goes to the Brain Pad, outside of custom jobs.

The main thing is that the Brain Pad keeps your lower jaw held forward. My doctor is the team doctor for our local professional football team, and specializes in sports injuries. He says that the most common concussion injury (and KO) in amateur boxing comes from a straight punch to the chin that drives the rear joints of the jaw into the back of your skull. The Brain Pad -- or any mouthguard that holds the lower jaw in place -- keeps this from happening. It'll keep you in the fight longer and result in less brain damage. Pretty good deal for thirty bucks, huh?

If you get a custom mouthguard, have your dentist or dental tech form it all into one piece like a Brain Pad.

You don't have a corrupt medical system run by soulless robber-baron scumbags, you lucky bastard.

**** fraidycat! You paid $400 for your dentist mouthguard?

Mine cost about $100. Dentist mouthguards should be your only real consideration. Nothing beats them.

Thats why all the pro's use them.

The guard was probably $150-200, but I got billed for the dentist visit, too; my dental insurance sucks. Under my policy, a mouthguard is considered "cosmetic dentistry," so I got billed for the visit, the lab tech, the materials, and the guard. About $400, all told.
