He outweighes me by 20 pounds. now i'm natural southpaw and i can move in the ring. having sparred in karate lots, i do see the **** coming and all. the guy will not go all out and hurt me but his jab is the thing that worries me the most. i'll be quicker i'm sure of it at 170 and i got cardio to burn. i see myself throwing 80 punches and up with jabs right hooks and straights. i'll keep it simple with 2-3 punch combination at most because he'll pick me off for sure. i'm working speed bag a bit of heavy bag learning to twisht the front toe when hooking. my hands have always been high do to blocking kicks coming my way in martial arts. so hey, i'll have fun, not scared at all. i,ll get a bleeding nose and worse comes to worse i'll go down on a rib shot that i might not see. should i move jab and stay outside? no timeline scheduled but January sounds right. i guess i should go into a boxing gym... We're good friends so i promised i'd go easy on him.

    thanks
Hmm, having a Karate background somewhat helps compared someone that has no fighting background at all. I'm a former amateur boxer/Muay Thai.

I've faced several guys that have either a Shotokan Karate or Tae Kwon do background. I found most Karate practitioners to be rigid in their movement, meaning, they don't give you much lateral movement, it's mostly north and south. The Tae Kwon do guys seemed to be a lil more loose, had better footwork. But one thing either stylists weren't prepared for, I gave them angles all day, I pivoted left, pivoted right and they would end up open for roundhouse kicks and hook punches, the lateral movement gave the Tae Kwon do and karate stylists all kinds of problems.

I wasn't really clear on your agreed upcoming sparring session with the Silver Glover. Are you guys sparring under freestyle rules, or just boxing w/ no kicking involved? If its just straight up boxing, I think you're in for a good beatdown, depends if the guy you're sparring is a nice guy or a jerk(lol). I don't see how your Karate experience will help you in the boxing ring. My piece of advice to you is do alot of stepping in and out, stick with the 1-2's, give a lil bit of faking(in boxing it's called feinting). keep it simple!

And watch the boxer's feet from time to time(i'm sure you already know this from your karate)because once the boxer steps in and plants, that is your cue to counter and drop your 1-2's on him.

You said that the guy you're fighting is 20lbs heavier than you, don't try to wrestle with him too much, as this will take alot of energy away from you. You also mentioned that you're a southpaw, the 1-2 is a great combination for any southpaw.
