  • need help sparring tips

i got a loud mouth, i'm ripped to shreads, have done karate for 4 years i admire boxing and i don't miss a fight. i talked myself into a sparring session with a silver glove boxer at work who still spares the odd time. had a short amateur career and he went 11-1 apparently. He outweighes me by 20 pounds. now i'm natural southpaw and i can move in the ring. having sparred in karate lots, i do see the **** coming and all. the guy will not go all out and hurt me but his jab is the thing that worries me the most. i'll be quicker i'm sure of it at 170 and i got cardio to burn. i see myself throwing 80 punches and up with jabs right hooks and straights. i'll keep it simple with 2-3 punch combination at most because he'll pick me off for sure. i'm working speed bag a bit of heavy bag learning to twisht the front toe when hooking. my hands have always been high do to blocking kicks coming my way in martial arts. so hey, i'll have fun, not scared at all. i,ll get a bleeding nose and worse comes to worse i'll go down on a rib shot that i might not see. should i move jab and stay outside? no timeline scheduled but January sounds right. i guess i should go into a boxing gym... We're good friends so i promised i'd go easy on him.

    thanks

yeah boxing is nothing like karate so i suggest getting to a gym asap to see if you can match it with someone like that.

You'll be in for a shock my friend. You did karate not boxing! Don't assume you'll walk in the ring and match a boxer. You will eat humble pie!

Get down to a gym and start sparring with boxers and see how you get on.

Furthermore, having bad footwork and a bad stance could get you knocked on your ass without your opponent even throwing bombs. If your off balance a good firm double jab could knock you over. If you do get to a boxing gym practice a lot of footwork.
