I understand that they are good for reducing inflammation.

The body needs a certain ratio, a good analogy is the old musical chairs game:

On the average, westerners' bodies there are twenty Omega-6 and one Omega-3 all running around and all trying to fit in 6 chairs. Odds are the Omega-6 will get the seat and the Omega-3 will not benefit you at all. So the best thing to do is stay away from all the oils - those vegetable oils that 20 years ago they said were so good for us. No margarine (not even the one's that have a little Omega-3, because they still have too much Omega-6) Try and go cold turkey on all the the things that add Omega-6 or Omega-9 in your diet for about a month while also increasing your Omega-3's.

So, basically it doesn't matter how much omega-3 you are getting. if you are still getting 10 or 20 times the omega 6, the ratios will always be off, and you will not get the benefit of having the omega3 in your diet.

By the way, Omega-3 has three parts: EPA (the one that reduces inflammation), DHA (the one that is good for your brain) and ALA (Easy to get from flax seed, ALA can be converted to DHA and EPA, but it's better to have those two available when your body needs them.)

Ok, eat enough red meat to get the same amount of creatine you would from a supplement.

        Good luck.

His general point is accurate. Supplements can be useful of course, but it is smart regardless to establish first whether you actually have a gap which needs supplementing. Omega3 can be found in a lot of good fatty products. If you are already eating enough of these products there is no need to supplement it further. Same goes for protein, vitamins, etc.

I used to have runner's knees a long time ago but after running "uphill" for a while, the pain started to go away.

You may also want to see a professional chiropractor. Mine recommended that I use knee straps, which I did until that uncomfortable feeling in my knees went away from running uphill.

By the way, I haven't had knee problems since 04-05. Thanks be to God.

I prefer to get nutrients from a whole food source where I can. Two tablespoons of milled flaxseed will provide the omega 3 that you need for the day. Brazil nuts and Walnuts also have high levels. Like a previous poster stated though it's about getting omega 6 and 3 in ratio. That's unlikely to happen without cutting out processed foods and foods containing oils derived from corn, which I've been led to believe is used extensively in America.

If there isn't sufficient omega 3 in your diet to counterbalance omega 6 then that can lead to inflammation. Avocados contain omega 3 and are also anti-inflammatory so they might help. Turmeric is also good with combatting inflammation.

My knees used to feel like they were shot-to-****, so much so that I couldn't wear half of my shoes and trainers because they didn't provide enough cushioning. I couldn't even walk without pain.

Once I started eating a lot of foods that are supposedly alkalising (I'm not convinced on the theory, but in practice it worked) not only could I walk without pain but I was able to start running and playing football again. Flavouring my water with freshly squeezed lemon juice and having harm water with a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and a tea spoon of honey has also worked wonders.
