I also noticed the off balance punch. And you're right, the boxer didn't exactly load up on his right cross.

of course you guys knew i had to jump in here.

this documentary sucks. it was near the worst fight science/martial arts documentary i have seen. only better than the xma one.

it is absolutely rediculous to think that the "kung fu guy" can and did represent chinese martial arts. to be specific, there is no style called kung fu. then, they pick a guy who may have never been in a fight before. for all we know, he could be a modern wushu guy - who is only competetive in forms. most of these guys from what i know do not train any of the skills for power.

what they should have done is get a few experts in a few various styles - which would make the representation more accurate.

and why the different weight classes? how can you have even a semi accurate account of various arts when the guys all weigh differently. they did not even mention the force per bodyweight ratio either.

bottom line, it comes down to the person, not the system.

          Hey J,

Just to confirm, yes the kung fu guy is gold medalist in Wu Shu according to the programme!

So basically are you telling me that these Wu Shu fellas never spar or anything like that? So they'd be near useless in a real life confrontation?

Boxing has harder punch is because the boxer use his legs for movement as well as for power as sometimes boxer stay abit flatted footed.

But as for other martial arts the legs is used for kicking so it abit up held high to prepare a kick or counter kicks

yes, that is exactly what i am saying. not all of them have no sparring/fighting experience, but the consensus seems to be that nearly 95 % of them have little to no experience at all. case in point - jet li. he was an elite performer but has said himself that he has never been in a fight. his sparring experience, i have no idea about but the way that the top guys train their forms, he would have no time for sparring and fighting drills.

nearly every martial art has boxing. are you saying that you don't think other martial arts use the body to generate power? if so, you are sadly mistaken. i would encourage you to find a top guy in a martial art that is known for power punching and tell him that his power is nothing or little compared to a boxer of his size. you will be surprized and hoping you don't get hit again.

i can say that because i have first hand experience. i don't have to assume.
