I do pull ups...I usually hit off with shock 20 times, then 1-3 minute breaks in between and then I do 10 pull ups 3x more, or more depending, with pushups in between some sets. Chin ups only work biceps no? I do all kind of width pull ups and I gotta say I stopped doing any weight excercises for back and my back got much bigger just by doing pull-ups, including shoulders and tricepts.
I don't know I don't really like doing max it proves nothing to me to do so I stopped doing this in high school. Not sure if 20 is good but I can probably do at least 30 straight with no stopping, if I got a rest while feet still not on the ground I might be able to go even more, I try to do at least 50 pull ups a day 5 times a week or so.
