Man you need to grow some balls. Don't worry about looking like a fool wearing headgear. When it's your health and career on the line, don't play around. At the very least, buy some headgear and wear it during sparring. But really, you should talk to whoever is in charge and find out why nobody is wearing headgear.Comment

Just an FYI, headgear doesnt prevent tramatic brain injury. Headgear is used to prevent cuts caused by headbutts. Its why you can still get rocked hard with headgear on. Getting rocked with headgear on is the same as getting rocked with headgear off, still a better idea to use headgear. Just dont go thinking you can absorb big shots because he doesnt prevent brain damage.Comment

I've heard something about sparring with headgear making people lazier on their defense... maybe your coach feels that way. Or maybe he's trying to save money? Has anyone asked about it or is it just that he doesn't supply it?Comment

Headgear doesn't just prevent traumatic brain injury... some studies have thought that wearing head guards can actually make the blunt force impact worse.
It makes sense too. When you have your headgear on, it weighs a couple of ounce, then you sweat into it, making it even heavier. Then you get hit in the face WITH all this extra weight on your bonce. Your head goes back with the force of the punch AND the weight of the headgear.
I still wear one though, i cut and bruise easily on my eyes.Comment
