    protein bad?

I have heard a lot about how protein causes liver damage over time. I tried searching on google and really couldn't find any details. Would taking 33 grams of whey protein after working out every day be bad? Are they talking about insane amounts of protien or is this just a myth? I've heard a few people say it but never saw anything ever written up about it or whatnot.

No taking 30 odd grams of protein after a workout would be good. As it would replenish your muscles and make them grow back quicker and stronger. I think if you use it sparingly you'll be fine but dont take any more than 50 grams at a time, as your body cannot digest more than 50 and the rest will go to waste. Hope that helps

You were probably mistaking the protien for creatine, if you do not take in enough water with creatine theres a possibability of you gettin kidney stones.

If that's all you eat, you're ****ed regardless...

Obviously protein is good for you. HOW MUCH protein you need, and whether overconsumption is bad/how bad, is somewhat controversial. A lot of different opinions on that one...

too much causes problems. I should say metabolism of too much does. Which is why high-protein diets (Atkins... I think, can't get these diets straight anymore) are bad for you. Also, digestion is tough when you have more than say 50g in one short time, you'll probably notice some indegistion of some kind. So long as you need it, then it's good. I go through more than 100g a day, but if I was a a lazy fatass, then that would not be good, so it's all relative.

All this hogwash about protein is a North American fad. Go to other places in the world where people get less than half as much protein you will find they are just as healthy. There was a big study done in China some years ago where it was found that the Chinese eat about one third the protein and calcium that we get here in North America. Osteoporosis is rare in Cinina and the average life span was only 4 years shorter despite the fact that most Chinese do not have access to a high level of medical care.

Everybody in this forum is cackling about the latest protein potion, yet there isn't a shred of evidence that any of this junk is beneficial.
