Treadmill vs Roads

Should I do both to get a good stamina though. I live in quite a rough area where people are constantly picking fights with me, for no reason. My Gym is equipped with a few treadmills so I reckoned that I would run on the mill instead.

I like road better, but thats for the coolness factor. If in the gym, its the stairmaster for me.

Running outdoors is probably the more effective way to train than using a treadmill. The lack of wind resistance is one example of a variable that sets the two apart and makes running on a treadmill easier than it would otherwise be on an equal elevation outdoors. For this reason training for outdoor races and similar sporting events using a conventional treadmill is complicated due to the subtle differences. Then again, training for a race and training for a fight are two different things entirely, but I feel the advantage of wind resistence in relation to the controlled distance and rate of progress makes running outdoors more effective.
However, one thing that treadmills do as opposed to running outdoors that is benefitial to people with joint problems or older athletes is that treadmills offer the benefit of reduced impact because all treadmills offer some sort of shock absorption. Thus, exercising on a treadmill can somewhat reduce the strain to the ankles, knees and lower back. It should be important to note the importance of the condition of the lower back from a boxers perspective. Consistent strain of the lower back could create problems for boxers and could create cramps limiting maneuverability and could leave the individual more susceptible to the stiff jab i.e. DLH-Mosley.
The choice is yours. Preferably I'd choose outdoors due to the variation of elevation and wind resistence which are difficult to duplicate on a treadmill, and the amount variation of strain between the two forms of training are very slim unless you have joint problems. But treadmills are good if you live an area with unfavorable weather conditions or a high crime rate, and of course some treadmills have special features such as step count, heart rate monitors, amount of calories expended, and as most of the factors of the run are known, the energy expended may be calculated, which is a valuable resource in keeping in shape and making weight.
