  • my trainer wont let me have my own style

i know hes my trainer and knows alot more than me but for ****s sake...the ONLY way i can block a jab without him telling me otherwise is with my right hand,i have to stop it with my right hand by putting my right hand out and thats final, today i was using the winky style abit, putting my gloves up to block punches then firing back with my own and it seemed to be working for me,i had success by doing that and he still wont let me do it.

as for hooks,it has to be horizontal fist palm down anything other than that is ****ty and useless and generates no power,BOLLOCKS.

i can feel more power the way i do it...oh and not to mention..90% of the boxers in the world throw it with the thumb facing upwards...the only 1s i can think of is antonio tarver and clinton woods

pisses me off sometimes, hes making me into mikkel kessler he doesnt even like teaching us how to throw hooks and uppercuts

He's trying to get you to master the basics before you can build it into your own style.

is there anything more basic than putting your gloves up to block a punch?

and having your hand held palm down isnt a basic,if the rest of the world is doing it a different way

yah **** that, i would say, naww man, i cant change that. for the left hook thing, about the blocking a jab, his way is a good way, but also sticking ur right hand there could leave ur chin open for left hooks if he fakes u..

so i dunno, do what ur trainer says while workin with him, but on bags and in sparring do YOU, but remember what he told u. knowledge is power.

he is right. you catch the jab, you dont put your gloves up.

thats true and i respect it but if im not very good at it and an alternative blocking technique works better for me surely theres room for it? not cancel it out completely and tell me i cant use it

Your trainer needs to realize that.... your going to do what's more comfortable for you, everyone has a diffrent style.. he cant really try to force u and everyone else in that gym to fight with the same exact style and technique.... he needs to say "if you want to do that style, then this is what you need to do" and teach you how to perfect the style that you want to use

the reason its hard is because you dont practice it.

by the way you hit the bad, any style is better than your own. it's even more sad that your trainer let you spar.

another standard going against the grain thread, has all the basics. someone complains about their trainer, everyone acts like the trainer has a doctorate in boxing, and one poster insults the op. nothing surprising here.
