Swimming is really good, if you incorporate it in training, but should be done with running. They just serve two different purposes.

Ive got a similar problem mate, although I dont box, to do cardio is difficult to due a hip, and back problem.

Interval bagwork, and doing the pads. That wears me out like hell

imo, swimmin will build your endurance so much faster
but swimmin hits your legs, abs, and shoulders and defines those muscles
i'd choose swimmin over runnin any day b/c you can do it so many ways and for it not to be borin

          my two cents
          swimmin > runnin

Sulaiman Nyambui, the greatest college runner ever, prepared for the NCAA's one year running (not swimming) in the pool due to an injury. He won everything he trained for.....

you should still do both, but swimming is also known to increase tidal volume due to the resistance of the water, and that's never a bad thing.

                Too bad I can't swim for ****

An hours hard swimming will do you better than an hours hard running. but obviously you need both.

If a boxer can spend an hour swimming, he's likely spending too much time swimming...
