I want to start cutting, but i am afraid about how much muscle i may lose. I have been bulking up for almost 2 months now, and have a noticable difference, but know i have added a fair share of fat as well. I want to get the fat back down, but dont want to lose ALL of the muscle i put on. Can anyone help me with advice? Does anyone know in general how much muscle is lost during cutting? I would still be getting 80-100g protein/day if i was cutting. I weigh close to 170..before i started bulking up i was 146 @ 5 % body fat. Any help would really be appreciated

thanks everyone for your advice. Nate dogg, do you know of any side effects of Glutamine? I researched it a good amount and everyone speaks very highly of it and say they have not found any adverse effects. It seems really great, but if it is so good why do more people not use it?

Muscle mass is hard to loose.
You will always loose fat first, once that is gone you will loose muscle.
It's all a load of bull**** that you loose muscle like its nothing. You might will loose definition and such, but the muscle tissue that you build up is still there. Sure you loose it, but its a rather slow process.

At his initial weight of 162, his total mass of bodyfat is 26 lbs. He then loses 22 lbs., but still has a BF% of 9, at 140 lbs. That's 12.6 lbs. of fat still on him. The difference, 13.4 lbs., is the fat he's lost. Pretty good. But as far as retaining muscle mass, pretty bad. He's lost is 22-13.4 = 8.6 lbs.
I'm sorry but losing almost 9 lbs. of muscle in 10 weeks is ridiculous.
Edit: In fact, it sounds like someone pulled numbers out of their ass, without thinking it through, because losing that much muscle would be rather difficult...
