I don't think Williams even belongs in the same sentence as Mayweather right now, but a few people (including yourself) think beating Williams at this point in his career would actually mean something when it wouldn't. You don't get points for beating prospects just because you think they'll become greats down the road. Should we give props to the guys that beat Panchito Bojado and Ricardo Williams because everyone thought for sure they would become great fighters?
Margarito, Cintron, Williams etc. Will Not Add to Floyd's Legacy

But Margarito HASN'T beaten everyone at welterweight. He has never beat anyone in the top 5...Comment

These fights will do NOTHING for Mayweather's legacy. If he wants to be recognized as THE GREATEST then he has to beat the best fighters out there today. While I think Margarito, Cintron, and Williams are all good fighters and even give them a decent chance of beating Mayweather, nobody thinks of these guys as the top guys in the sport or even their division. If any of these guys do anything for legacy it would be beating Margarito. This would only help his legacy in that it would shut up boxing writers and fans who claim that he is "ducking" Margarito. If Floyd won the fight and Margarito never beats a "great" fighter then nobody will think anything of the fight in the future. The same goes for Williams and Cintron. The only way these fights credit Mayweather is IF these guys go on to have great careers (ie. Diego Corrales) but that is far from a guarantee. If Floyd wants legacy there are only a few fights out there for him. 1) Winky Wright... high on the p4p list; naturally bigger than Floyd. 2) Ricky Hatton... I think Floyd wipes the floor with him, but he is undefeated and beat KT (a really good fighter). 3) Assuming he beats Quintana, Miguel Cotto... undefeated, highly regarded prospect with power (people question Mayweather's courage/chin). After fighting these guys perhapst then we can move on to other contenders who may or may not have proven to be great fighters by this time.Comment

they would all beat floyd so your right they wouldnt add to his phony ass "legacy".I'm sick of people saying fighting these prospects/contenders will add to Floyd's legacy. It will not. If Floyd beats these guys down, he will not get any credit for it even 10 years from now. Why? Because these guys haven't done **** in their careers. Margarito has beat nothing but fringe contenders and is content holding onto his paper title. Cintron has yet to beat a solid top 10 welterweight yet and is another paper champ. Williams also hasn't beat even a top 20 welterweight and has no meaningful titles. He is just a prospect with a lot of hype right now. What do beating guys who have accomplished nothing do for Floyd, a fighter who has accomplished more than these three fighters will do in their careers combined?
When you talk about Sugar Ray Leonard's legacy, no one ever mentions his wins over Green, Lalonde or any other contenders he fought. You talk about his fights with the greats like Duran, Hagler, and Hearns. Floyd will be looked at much more favorably for beating DLH than for beating Margarito, Cintron, or Williams...Comment

Not sure where you're coming from. I wouldn't support a williams/mayweather fight right now anyway. he doesn't hold a title. thought I made that clear. but when he does hold a title at welter, he will be a force to reckon with if he stays there. if baldomir was supposed to add to his legacy, why wouldn't a 6'1 williams, as long as he's holding a title? mayweather would have very few reasons to not fight williams with a title if that were the case, if you compare him to the baldomir decision.I don't think Williams even belongs in the same sentence as Mayweather right now, but a few people (including yourself) think beating Williams at this point in his career would actually mean something when it wouldn't. all mute anyway, because he's backing out of these possible fights. he'll have all the chances in the world to impress or **** on his legacy against DLH. only time will tell.Comment

he had a medal in the olympics (and the medal would have been gold if he was not robbed in the semifinals)
Mayw was unbeaten looking for a shot at a fighter who lost as he stepped up in weight.
Marg is a fighter who lost as he stepped up in weight, looking for a shot at the unbeaten p4p#1
"pretty" different situation...Comment

Williams might be very interesting in the future, let's see how he develops and let's see him fight good competition. (Baldo had just beat Judah and Gatti, not that Gatti means anything)Not sure where you're coming from. However Baldomir did not have A belt: he was THE champ at 147. huge difference with any belt Williams can gather in the future.Comment

Just say it. Mayweather got a pass to a title shot. So why is he, and his fans, and you asking for Margarito to fight King Kong......none of you want to admit that at one time, no one wanted to fight Margarito. Everybody says they'll fight him but they want milliions. Which is a joke. In other words they are pricing themselfs out of a fight.
Floyd robbed?
So was Fernando Vargas.
Talk about robbery, then lets talk (recently) Rocky Juarez and Ricardo Williams getting robbed of their gold medals only to settle for the silver.
No, Delahoya, the Golden Boy. Finally offered Hernandez a fight at lightweight. The rivallery of both LA fighters was to be decided finally. Both were at jr. lightweight both fighting and the LA boxing fans wanted to see who is LA's best fighter. Its not so much that Hernandez went up to fight Delahoya, its that the fight was a fight of continuation of hate while they were both at jr. lightweight. And Hernandez was already proven and the best at the time at jr. lightweight, and had never lost at jr. lightweight.Mayw was unbeaten looking for a shot at a fighter who lost as he stepped up in weight.
But lets look at Mayweathers record, he fought nobody to get his title shot, no name fighter -as you guys like to point out about Margarito. So he got a free pass to a title shot.
Wrong, wrong, wrong! While Margarito made the move to jr. middleweight, Mayweather was still at a lower weight. Margarito loses a close fight, so of course being a smart person he goes back down and defends his title. Why the hate? So then along comes Floyd, saying hes the best at welterweight, while Margarito has been fighting every contender, prospect, verteran fighter that is "willing" to fight him and he storms threw them. Here comes Floyd fighting jr. welterweights at welterweight. Imposter. Floyd wants to say he's the best then fight Margarito.Marg is a fighter who lost as he stepped up in weight, looking for a shot at the unbeaten p4p#1
People say Margarito isn't a proven fighter, yet many of these same people still rank him in the top ten if not the top five.
Floyd will never be on Delahoyas level, cause no matter what, at one time or another, Delahoya faced the fighters the public demanded, the tough opponet, I can't say this about Floyd, Floyd is too scared, Floyd ain't made of the same cloth as Delahoya. But i do give him props for fight Delahoya, but then again if the money wasn't their, would Floyd still have fought Delahoya?
Margarito name will always follow Mayweather when talked about Floyd career and really looking in depth into Floyds career.
"The Legend That is Antonio Margarito!"
