Tempting. The possibility of getting rid of you forever, that is. I'll have to think about that one. I like this place a lot though.
Peter-Toney on January 6!

Why not, Peter should get him out of there in 4 or less.
I feel the same way. Not having to ever see your goofy mug or seeing you try to justify your previous nonsense would be a big bonus.
Man up and take the bet. You're that confident in Peter and what you saw in the last fight, what's the problem?Comment

Last fight Peter barely squeaked by. I had the fight more or less even up until the last round which I think Peter won. I've said many times, the fight could have been a draw. It was that close. I am not confident the Peter that showed up last time could beat Toney, unless James has slipped somewhat. I am pretty damn confident a better prepared Peter beats him, ready for his style and better able to capitalize on his lack of reach, but in four rounds? No way. I've already admitted my original prediction was way off base. Most likely a mid round to late stoppage.
Confident enough to make that kind of bet? Not so sure yet.Comment

I wouldn't bet on this fight because its the HW division and the decision may not be indicative of what actually transpired. Clearly the first fight was close in that it depends on how you value scoring. To me boxing is a sport and I look to skill over brute force. In that sense I thought Toney won a UD because he dominated the boxing match. He wasn't as active as he could have been but he fought effectively in spurts. I also give points for solid defense and Toney did well to avoid punches from a bigger stronger guy. That being said, I think this next fight is pick 'em and it really comes down to conditioning. Whoever is in better condition I think will win the fight (relative condition not compared to each other).Comment

I've met one of your idols Jake Lamotta in Manhattan and I've also met James Toney. It's well documented that Toney disrespects reporters and journalists. When dealing with foreign press he is known to mock them, impersonate accents etc. I don't need to bring up the crude and inaccurate attempt to mock Ruiz's "mexican" heritage. The history between he and his ex-female manager Jackie Kallen is well known on this forum. Other insiders in boxing are sick of him. Lou Duva himself said that nothing would be more satisfying than seeing Toney knocked out. James is a self centered prick who's full of himself and his act has grown thin and popularity has waned since the Ruiz fight. My only gripe with Toney in a professional sense is his lack of discipline. I actually enjoy watching him fight and thought he put on as masterful display against Ruiz. All of my problems with him are for personal reasons. He rubs me the wrong way, as well as many others, and along with Zab Judah he could retire tomorrow and never fight again and it wouldn't even be worth a shrug from me.
Toney is an exceptional boxer but horrible sportsman. He has very little respect for the sport that he's made his millions in, as evidenced by the condition he shows up to fight in. Soon he will retire, a sure lock for the HOF, and living reminder that prize fighters and athletes are not always the best role models.
