As for last year. I cannot stand Ricky Hatton. With that said, I cant say that he deserved to win FOTY more than JT, because JT won 2 close and DISPUTED decisions over Hopkins, unable to establish dominance...at the same time Ricky Hatton did Kostya Tszyu WWE-style and the ref allowed it, which is just as, if not even less impressive.Comment

LMFAO at anybody who suggests Hatton wasn't FOTY for 2005. FFS he beat the greatest 140lber ever and reigning lb4lb #1 according to many (made him quit like a ***** infact), then unified the division with a beautiful one-punch KO! Not only that, but he became probably the most talked about fighter in boxing - if you looked on all the forums last year and first half of this year it was Hatton, Hatton, Hatton.
I completely agree with you!!!!
Fighter Of The Year should be the most talked about boxer on BoxingScene.com
Period!
WTF is Ring thinking???

Both of Taylor's fights with Hopkins were where close and anyone could have argued for the decision going another way. But the judges gave it to the younger, undefeated fighter.
Hatton, beat a top 3 P4P fighter by TKO and KO to unify.
Not even a contest.Comment

Tszyu and Hopkins were about equal in terms of where they were in their careers last year. Hatton stopped Tszyu and Maussa, who had just destroyed Phillips.......Taylor, on the other hand, barely got a win either time over Hopkins and several thought B-Hop was robbed twice because of the way Taylor faded down the stretch...to say nothing of the infamous 12th round scoring of their first contest.
Taylor didn't dominate Hopkins or even beat him convincingly in two tries. So, NO....he wasn't as impressive as Hatton last year and didn't deserve FTY honors.
BTW Hatton barely beat Tszyu, I had Hatton up by 1 point when Tszyu quit! That was not an impressive win, Hatton got away with alot of dirty **** in that fight!Comment

No they were not, Tszyu was not even in top 5 P4P, Hopkins won a record 20 straight championship fights and was P4P #1.
BTW Hatton barely beat Tszyu, I had Hatton up by 1 point when Tszyu quit! That was not an impressive win, Hatton got away with alot of dirty **** in that fight!
Hopkins assumed his spot as the P4P #1 Fighter.
Tszyu was rated as #2 by most recognized publications and websites at the time when he fought Hatton.
It was only after both of their loses (Tszyu and Hopkins) when Mayweather assumed the throne on the P4P listComment

Well Baldi just blew his chance, didn't he?
I guess that makes it a "FOTY by default". Pac beating Morales twice and Larios should make him a candidate for it, though it's by no means certain he'll beat Morales again (I know, it's highly likely, but you never can tell...) Besides, if he does so again but less convincingly (say, a SD following the KO) will it diminish what he achieved in February? Probably not, just speculating...
Floyd would probably be a possibility for the Ring, but I don't like to see someone get the title on only two bouts*, especially when one of them was against Baldi, God love him.
Who else? Well, I suppose Little Klit did grab the #1 spot in the heavies and beat an undefeated prospect, but both of those seem like BoxRec confidence tricks rather than anything more solid. Joe Blow pissed his momentum down the drain... I dunno. Not a lot of choice is there, really? It's got to be Pac, ain't it?
* Watch DiegoFuego quote/refer to this part of the thread and use it to slate Hatton winning it last year... predictable as ****, you watch...Comment

The nature of the wins DOES matter. You can't be fighter - that's FIGHTER - of the year by squeaking past on an iffy decision and ending the fight nearly fainting from the loss of your own blood. That's not a fighter of the year.
Regardless of how dirty he was and how ****ed Costa Zoo might have been, Hatton dominated his ass.
But remember - there are ISTR about 11-20 staff writers on The Ring, who pick these things. Only ONE of them is from England. Yet Hatton got the pick. So maybe when you're accusing people of being "homers" you should stop before you go throwing **** around.
What made me LOL was the end of last year when everyone on here was thinking of reasons for Hatton NOT to be FOTY. It was more of a default win, granted, but who else had a say in it?Comment
