Taylor was clearly fighter of the year in 2005, it was not even close in my opinion!

I agree Taylor was FOTY in 2005.

Yeah, but getting completely dominated in his third undermines it, don't you think? No matter what the opponent.

Calzaghe won every minute of every round against a guy that no single American gave him a single chance against, became the first EVER Ring Magazine champion in his division, made his HBO debut and is in position to become a star Stateside.

            He's up there.

I can't take the concept of someone being FOTY when the two fights they won were extremely close and in the eyes of many he didn't win both.

Yes, I know Taylor had three fights that year, but it's the two with Hopkins that put him there.

LMFAO at anybody who suggests Hatton wasn't FOTY for 2005. FFS he beat the greatest 140lber ever and reigning lb4lb #1 according to many (made him quit like a ***** infact), then unified the division with a beautiful one-punch KO! Not only that, but he became probably the most talked about fighter in boxing - if you looked on all the forums last year and first half of this year it was Hatton, Hatton, Hatton.

I fell asleep during both Hopkins-Taylor fights, FWIW.

And I wouldn't be suprised if Calzaghe won this year's. He beat up the American Idol, the guy who was supposed to be the next superstar of boxing, and did it with one of the most impressive masterclasses ever seen.

Me too, tedious beyond belief. Outpointing someone by throwing about six punches and nearly fainting through bloodloss is not the way to get FOTY. I don't care how good Hopkins is (that's debatable anyway....) you don't get FOTY on a split decision that many think you lost (including The Ring, who voted for FOTY).

I don't even like Hatton much, but I can't see an argument as to why he isn't.

I think people who say that Taylor (the greenest champ I've ever seen) really won it are looking at it through these:
