Willie Pep is a Master, but Floyd is Garbage

Baldy held the title, so not really handpicked.
But the discussion goes for his entire career.Comment

Floyd had a bunch of other options.
Baldomir lurching around the ring trying to get off that right hand...easy pickins for PBF.
I can't think of another Floyd performance I didn't enjoy. I'd be happy with some more killer instinct in a couple fights. But overall, I like watching him. Not in that Baldomir fight, though. Carlos' snap was completely gone by the 5th or 6th after having whiffed on so many bombs. But Floyd still kept running. That was lame.Comment

Yea, that fight ******, but if Mayweather didn't fight him you would have a bunch of people saying he was never the real champion at 147, am I right?Floyd had a bunch of other options.

Floyd hurt his hand supposedly...what is he supposed to do, stand in and trade with one arm, possibly causing him danger to get hurt, risking a big fight with Oscar?
If he would of did that, lost, he would of been called ******.
Maybe Pep should of stood in there and fought more, maybe he would have had more KO's
And if Baldomir looked like crap, it is because Mayweather shat him out of his anusLast edited by Abe Attell; 11-15-2006, 11:29 AM.Comment

Gatti did...
Listen there is no comparison with PBF and the Wil o' the Wisp, Willy fought more than PBF and beat a guy in Sandy Saddler than is 10 times better than any opponet than PBF beat.
It comes down to this, Pep while being a defesnsive master was still putting guys out. Offense in boxing is just as much apart of the game as defense is. PBF is giving just enough offesne to win the rds. To be considered great and legendary which PBF claims he is (he claims the greatest ever which is horse****) you have to put the guys out. Pep did this when he was fighting and defending for the featherweight title, KOing Humberto Sierra, Jock Leslie, Sal Bartolo, Eddie Compo, and when Pep finally beat Saddler by decsion in 1949 it was fight of the year. When was the last time PBF was in one of those? *and remeber Pep was in a near fatal plane crash and still continued on fighting, amazing!**
The fact is Pep can be a defensive master and still be just as deadly offensive and be twice as exciting, something PBF has yet to accomplish and probably will not. Hell PBF couldnt carry Pernell Whitaker's jockComment

And this is why he lost so many times, plus he can't do what Mayweather can.Gatti did...
Check Floyd's KO percentage then check Pep's.Listen there is no comparison with PBF and the Wil o' the Wisp, Willy fought more than PBF and beat a guy in Sandy Saddler than is 10 times better than any opponet than PBF beat.

And how far did Pep move up in weight?
Floyd moving up in weight is going to be a disadvantage, so he is not going to be knocking guys out or standing toe to toe.
He used to break his fighters down, then stand toe to toe. He was right in front of fighters, making them miss, and tagging them up.
For title fights and knockouts, did you miss the Chico fight?
Remember, Chico never lost before, and was never knocked out. Chico was destroyed, and if you haven't noticed, Chico doesn't throw pillows for punches.Comment

Has anyone actually said that Floyd is "garbage" ? I haven't seen anyone say that.
But I have seen him be criticized for not taking the toughest fights, and for being an arrogant prick, and in his last fight fighting so overly cautious.
If you fight overly cautious, then you will get some criticism. This isn't anything new. Byrd was criticized for that. Lennox used to be criticized for that all the time. Even Wladimir was widely criticized for how he beat Peter, rather easily not counting the rabbit-punches. I could go on and on and on...
Just because you dominate a fight, or win it convincingly, doesn't mean you escape criticism. This isn't some weird hatred, specifically targeted at Floyd; it's been going on forever. The fact that Floyd talks so much ****** **** makes him that much of an easier target for fans and writers.Comment

Well it is a ****ING DISGRACE to say **** about Chris Byrd. The guy wasn't even a Heavyweight, yet he fought the biggest S.O.B.s in the fight world. And he did his best to fight the best, and even risked winning to stand in front of the fighters because people were bitching. Chris had the balls to call out Lennox Lewis, but it was Emanuel Steward who said "NO" to the fight. THat is BULL****, you don't prevent a man with one title to not face another, and you don't prevent a man from earning a living.Last edited by Abe Attell; 11-15-2006, 12:26 PM.Comment

It's funny how your personal opinions can cloud the facts. Sure Floyd is not KOing people left and right at 147 but this is 4 weight classes above where he started fighting. Also he registered a KO against Mitchell 2 fights ago, probably would have KO'd Judah if not for the low-blow, and may or may not have KO'd Baldomir if his hand wasn't broken. Furthermore, check out his KO% throughout his career and I think you'll see he compares favorably to many perceived "punchers". For instance Pernell Whitaker had a 38% while Floyd has 65%. So while you may not think that his fights are exciting (which they aren't sometimes) that is fine but don't accuse the guy of not being able to put people down when he does.Gatti did...

If you claim to be the best of all time, you damn well better not be afraid and produce a knockout against an opponent who is ready to go.
And Pep stood right in front of his opponents and fought with them many times.Comment
