De La Hoya: "Floyd Mayweather, Jr. Will Not Be My Last Fight"

The contracts are signed, the date is set and only the fight remains. Oscar De La Hoya (38-4, 30 KOs) and Floyd Mayweather, Jr. (37-0, 24 KOs) collide on May 5, 2007 on HBO pay-per-view, at either the MGM Grand in Las Vegas or the Staples Center in California. [details]

I always said that he wouldnt retire without Floyd and that even this fight wouldnt be his last. You can tell that he felt great after the Mayorga win and wanted to stay with it. There are also a ton of big fights out there now with guys he is bigger then. He could have a great chance against alot of these smaller guys.

If he loses to Floyd then he still wont want to go out that way and would have one more sure fight, maybe against Tito

Well **** maybe I was wrong about Oscar. I guess he still has more left in him. I think he knows that even after his fight with Floyd names like Cotto, Margarito, and Williams will be around.

Does it seem weird to anyone else that Oscar has only one more victory than Floyd?

The thing with Oscar is that win or lose, he can make himself and others a multi Million dollar payday by just showing up to fight someone somewhere.

Win or lose he could still fight Tito again someday and even if they both didn't try they'd make a fortune.

              Oscar will always sell.

The only way I could see him retiring is if he wins the Floyd fight. That would be a really good note to walk away on.

Man, if he beat Mayweather and Trinidad in his next two fights he'd have to go down as the best fighter since Duran.

Those guys are just prospects, not proven enough to warrant a fight with the ruler of boxing, and not bigger enough names yet either.

I'm sure Oscar could make 147. The guy was world champion at 130 once upto a time.
