the response to this thread is sad. too much is being put on race. seriously it's just a phrase Great White Hope/Hype. it was a marketing ploy from way back and it stuck just like any other moniker that sticks to any gerneralization or sterotype, no harm being done unless you're an over sensitive little girl with a skinned knee who likes to cry about EVERYTHING!
but back to the issue at hand, as far as new up and coming white boy heavyweights my friend in minnesota has been working with this guy, although he's working with him so he has to be positive about him he seems promising enough for being a up and comer.

the great white hope thing is still alive and real. if there was a white heavyweight champion, even if he stunk up the place every time and was a clincher if he was white and american, he would have some serious fanbase. biggest grossing fight of all time through the gate, holmes vs cooney, why, not because it was a superfight which it was, but because holmes was white.
boxing has alot to do with race than most think, but seasoned observers and people who really know boxing, know that race is a big variable. it's that freakish sight of a tiny chinese guy putting down 60-70 hotdogs that sorta reminds me of why a white heavyweight champion is such a desired thing in america, because us whites are at a genetic disadvantage to a certain extent and one of us makin it to the top of the heavyweight division is kinda like, something you wouldn't imagine possible, like a tiny chinese guy eating 80 hot dogs. it's not just the fact that were white, it's the fact we're white americans and did less work over the course of time meaning we evolved as weaker beings, the forefathers of the people we have to fight against to progress through the ranks did all kinds of ****, slave labor in huge amounts and not just the blacks, Tenochitlan or whatever the aztec capital was called, the guy who ran **** there, montezuma, did alot of local slavery too, and it wasnt chain gang **** either, it was like whole subdivisions of guys building pyramids, many good latin fighters have aztec blood in them and they were some hard working people.
sure there's the eastern european heavies but they aren't the same, trying to satisfy the american public with that is like giving a fat guy sweet n low when he wants sugar, because americans know they came up hard over there, unlike an american would over here...thats one of the reasons oscar gets so much love, he was middle class his whole life and made it in boxingLast edited by SquareCircle; 11-10-2006, 08:57 PM.Comment

Tommy Zbikowski, who plays football for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, only has one fight, a first round knockout, but he was impressive. He is very quick on his feet for a big man, and throws some good combinations. I think his amateur record was something like 75-15. He has crushing power but is smallish for a heavyweight. He's 5'11 and 210, but he is a natural athlete with good mechanics. Angelo Dundee is his trainer.
He won't be fighting regularly as a professional though. He is more a weekend warrior and football seems to be his main priority. He intends to fight again after the season he says.

He has no future as a starter in the NFL. He might be a good special teamer, but hes highly overrated as a safety. He might end up going full time as a boxer, and Im positive he can drop down to cruiserweight because hes probably just trying to stay bulked up for football.Comment

I either misread or you are throwing all white people in the same bucket.
Slavic people are different to say Scandinavians and have different genetics advantages/disatvanges.
It's common knowledge that Slavs dominate things like strongmen competitions and stuff...Although I'm sure someone will come and say otherwise but whatever...
So for you to say someone is at a genetic disatvantage it depends what you mean. Most europeans are strong then Africans. Africans are leaner faster, stronger no...So it all balances out.
For instance I have big legs. I actually stay away from leg exercises and running cause my legs get massive when I do.
So geneticaly I am not a runner.
But even to say that white Americans are at some genetic disatvange is odd, because America is a melting pot. You got people from Irish to Italian intermixed and so on...
I just dont believe in genetic superiority in boxing. It seems to balance out, if a Euro stronger, then an African is faster. Both important factors right? Now its down to hard work and skill to take advantage of those "genetics" gifts.Comment
