FORMER world champion Nigel Benn last night denied that he is ready to jump back into the ring after a 14-month absence.
The 'Dark Destroyer' from Ilford, who turns 34 today, reaffirmed his decision to hang up his gloves for good and stressed that he has no intention of reviving his super-middleweight career.
''Someone from the press rang me and we were talking about fighters,'' Benn told Sky News.
''We started talking about Joe Calzaghe, then we were talking about Steve Collins and I said if I was ever to come back, the only person I'd ever fight would be Steve Collins.
''But then this morning on TV they were saying I'm making my comeback and I watched my wife break down and cry. My mum rang me up and said I was on Teletext.
''At the end of the day there are new kids on the block like Joe Calzaghe and I've had a good run. Boxers are the last person to know when it's time to call it a day.
''I'm not leaving my kids again. I'm going to stay there, watch them grow, play around with them, change nappies and give them their bottles,'' he said.
Benn's former manager Peter DeFreitas said: ''I think it is best if he leaves it as it is. He has nothing to prove and doesn't need the money.''
Earlier, Benn's trainer Jimmy Tibbs said he had been approached by the former WBC world super-middleweight champion to get him back in the ring.
Tibbs was in Benn's corner when he won the WBC title from Mauro Galvano in Italy in October 1992 and for his next six defences, against Nicky Piper, Galvano, Lou Gent, Chris Eubank, Henry Wharton and Juan Carlos Gimenez.
Kevin Saunders took over for Benn's ill-fated victory over Gerald McClellan and his wins against Vincenzo Nardiello and Danny Ray Perez, followed by his shock defeat against Sugar Boy Malinga.
Benn had hinted earlier at another clash with Chris Eubank, provided he shows some of the power that enabled him to secure 35 of his 42 victories inside the distance.
Why is this for me...? I must have missed something...

"Stevie completely changed his boxing style when he fought Eubank the second time, he basically just gave him no room to operate and never stopped punching. He won every minute of every round and Eubank was in the best shape of his life since 1990. Nigel Benn's best shots were bouncing off Stevie, he stood with Benn for 30 minutes and was never hurt once. What could Roy of done to keep Stevie off him? No question in my mind that Stevie would of broken Roy's heart and eventually broken him down." - Freddie Roach
"They had one common opponent. On paper it looked like Roy Jones Jnr would win. But Stevie had heart and determination. He definitely could have won that fight." - Freddie Roach
