Top Ten Reasons PBFloyd Is Retiring...

    10. He has enough money.
    9. So that the title of his blockbuster with Oscar is "Pretty Ending".
    8. Zab wants a rematch.
    7. Arturo wants a rematch.
    6. Larry Merchant has finally gotten on his last nerve.
    5. He was inspired when reading one of Tiki's children's books to his daughter.
    4. Wants to promote fights... And will intentionally name it "Pretty Boy Promotions" to make Oscar want to fight him.
    3. Deep down he's afraid of being in the spotlight.
    2. Now no one will ask him to fight Margarito as his last fight.
    1. He's not really retiring... Just hopes #2 actually happens.

He wants to be remebered as a legend, and doesnt like the press criticizing him, but he doesnt realise that retiring is the most damaging thing he could possibly do to te way he is remembered.

He's too wrapped up in his 'greatest ever' delusion. And doesnt understand wat it takes to be a great champion.

If Judah did not beat Mayweather, then Margarito won't. To beat floyd you need speed, Margarito is more of a straight ahead brawler with a highpunch output much like old Baldy. We all know how that turned out.

                  It really is a shame.
All that talent gone from lifting weights.
I wish Nigel would've just appreciated his normal physique.
I read in his book how he would often dream about having that Tyson like body.
He was good to me jus the way he was.
                  We'll miss you Dark Destroyer.

BOXING: Benn is so brutal - Hagler
From the Lancashire Evening Telegraph, first published Saturday 2nd Mar 1996.

MIDDLEWEIGHT legend Marvelous Marvin Hagler has paid Nigel Benn the ultimate compliment.

In an exclusive interview with the Lancashire Evening Telegraph he said: "The way that guy fights I'm glad to be retired - he's more brutal than I was."

Throughout a 15-year career, Hagler wreaked havoc on his division, coming within one fight of equalling Carlos Monzon's record of 14 world middleweight title defences.

Tonight Benn is making the 10th defence of the WBC super middleweight title against mandatory challenger Sugar Boy Malinga at the Newcastle Arena.

And Hagler has no doubts that the Dark Destroyer will leave his mark on boxing history.

"He fights with the same intensity and whole-hearted commitment that I did during my career," said Hagler who is currently filming on location in Milan. "Five years ago he defeated my half-brother, Robbie Simms, in Bethnal Green, London and I was very impressed.

"He showed great heart and has kayo power in both of his fists.

"My old mission was "destruct and destroy" and he's cut out of the same mould.

"Me and him would have been a great fight - we could have packed your Wembley stadium for that one."

It is over 15 years since Hagler won the world title at Wembley Arena when he stopped Alan Minter on cuts in the third round.

His victory provoked some of the most disgraceful scenes ever witnessed at a boxing match in Britain.

"Bottles, glasses, beer cans all came hurtling down on top of me when the ref stopped the fight," recalled Hagler.

"I didn't even get presented with my belt in the ring - my cornermen had to shield me out of the arena.

"It hurt me at the time because my moment of glory was spoilt by these hooligans but it's now all forgotten."

Not as easily forgotten is the manner in which he lost his title in 1987 on a split decision to Sugar Ray Leonard.

"They (the judges) robbed me of my title and to give to Leonard of all people was not enjoyable."

Hagler expects an emphatic victory for Benn tonight, some time around the eighth round.

MARVELOUS Marvin Hagler, who wreaked havoc on the middleweights throughout the 80s, today sounded out an ominous warning to Nigel Benn.

The Dark Destroyer challenges Irishman Steve Collins, twice a conqueror of Benn's bitter rival Chris Eubank, for the WBO super middleweight title tonight at Manchester's Nynex Arena.

It is a make-or-break bout for Benn - defeat would almost certainly signal the end of his exciting and turbulent career.

Victory could prompt Eubank out of retirement to engage in one final mouthwatering clash.

Hagler, a former stablemate of Collins when "The Celtic Warrior" fought out of Brockton, Massachusetts under the Petronelli brothers, predicts a ferocious encounter.

But he believes that when the dust settles, Collins will be the man left standing.

"I sparred with Steve quite a bit back in Brockton and he's a real tough, strong guy," said Hagler, currently filming the final scenes of a movie in Italy. "His intensity has improved dramatically in recent fights - he just keeps on top of his opponents, from the opening bell until they fall.

"I wouldn't say he's a particularly lethal puncher. But the cumulative effect of his punches can be devastating.

"And Benn has had a question mark hanging over his chin for most of his career.

"I think Collins will win but he may have to dig deep to do it."

Benn's defeat by Sugarboy Malinga in March was firm evidence that he is on the slide, suggests Hagler, who himself betrayed signs of fading against John Mugabi in 1986.

One year later he finally fought Sugar Ray Leonard. But the old sharpness had left him and he lost a controversial split points decision. Hagler immediately retired and feels that Benn could have done himself a favour by doing the same after the Malinga defeat.

"It was not the old Benn in that ring against Malinga," said Hagler.

"He lacked that fire, that passion.

"And it's hard to get that back.

                    "I think Benn's been a great fighter - a very exciting fighter.

"But every dog has his day and Benn's is gone."

Hagler anticipates Benn being stopped around the 10th round.
