I wouldn't go that far. Understood that more people know who Mayweather is than, say, Calzaghe. But not many outside of the sport know who Mayweather is either. You act as if he's Ali or something....Comment

No im going based on from what ive seen with my own eyes. People that I know personally that dont watch boxing and can give 2 pennies about it knows who mayweather is
And im talking about Old ppl, ppl my age... even girls that dont like sports at all, know who Pretty Boy is... from watchin shows like bet, mtv cribs ect.
so im not takin it to far when i say ppl that dont watch boxing know who he is, Im just saying what i see with my own eyes... now if thats not the case for yall, then hey thats one thing.... just go around and ask someone do they watch boxing and if they say no ask them do they know who floyd mayweather... do that to 10 ppl, im pretty sure the majority will say they have heard of him before, i highly doubt any of them will say they have heard of cal beforeLast edited by McAlister; 11-06-2006, 12:50 PM.Comment

Granted Calzaghe is far less known than Mayweather. But Mayweather's only exposure outside of boxing is on BET, he's in rap videos and all that ****** ****, he has a dumb record label, blah blah blah.
What I'm saying is that that is the reason why some other people know who he is, because they're into the hip-hop scene and watch BET. Take that away from Floyd and I guarantee you he becomes as unknown to the public as Calzaghe is now.
And for the record Mayweather will never be as known as Ali, no other fighter will ever be as recognizable as Muhammad Ali. There were people who didn't even know what the **** a jab was, who knew Ali.Comment

What the hell does Ali have to do with this? point is Mayweather vs ODLH is the biggest bout in boxing period. Stop reaching man.Granted Calzaghe is far less known than Mayweather. mtv cribs has nothing to do with him being in rap videos or a record label.... thats just showing his crib from the money he got from doing what.... BOXING, and Ali? lol 1. that has nothing to do with this... and 2. u know how long ago that was lol.... if floyd was on the scene back in ali day and undefeated.... with the same accomplishments he has today lol im damn sure he wouldve received the same kind of loveGranted Calzaghe is far less known than Mayweather. I brought Ali into the equation because McAlister was acting if Mayweather was that infamous already. Maybe it was just how I read the post but to me it came off that "even people who don't watch boxing know who Floyd Mayweather is" was stretching it quite a bit.
And you will never see me argue that De La Hoya vs. Mayweather is not the biggest fight that could take place in boxing, it is and it will be one of those fights we'll still be talking about years to come. Regardless of if it happens or not.Comment
