Well Larry never doubts the skillz of Floyd, he just makes it plain clear that there is a lot to be desired from the scape of the fans. Floyd lands a punch, then runs. It’s smart from the boxer’s point of view but it’s boring to us at home and them in the crowd. I really didn’t mind what Larry said. I didn’t mind Floyd’s reaction but it was so ****ing weird. He came off as kind of insecure.Comment

the statement is bold is a silly thing to say, it does not take 200 fights to be considered the best ever. The average level of competition a fighter faces today is higher, for the simple reason that if you fight twice a month you are going to end up fighting bums who would have no place in today's televised fights. Not true at all. Greb and Robinson were head and shoulders over what Mayweather could possibly accomplish. Fighters don't fight enough today to hope to best those records. Let's have Mayweather fight 200 times and see what his win/loss/draw record looks like after that. Then we can compare him to Robinson, Harry Greb, Benny Leonard, etc. Hell, let him fight at least 60 times for a start. It will never happen.
That being said, I agree with you: Hamed and Hatton would not make Mayweather the best fighter ever.
It is also likely that Mayweather will never be the best fighter ever, because he lacks one-punch ko power. It is as simple of that. I am sure sometimes he looks at his hands and hates them, becose they are not sledgehammers like Robinson's. No matter what he does, he will never possess that equalizer to take him out of trouble (This is the objective reason, this is why he will not BE the best ever, the reason why he will not BE CONSIDERED the best ever is bcos ppl that dont know **** about boxing, will always find someone with power more fascinating.
Mayweather performance told me two things, which I already partially knew; one about Mayweather, one about Robinson
1. I think that it will take something exceptional for me to consider mayweather the best fighter ever, because after he conquered his 3rd lineal title I am definitely not convinced, and I dont think he can do much more than that.
2. Robinson is not the greatest fighter ever, his defensive/technical shortcomings are covered by his all time great chin, and his all time great power. The greatest fighter ever has to combine those natural talents, with a comparable level of skills. The level of skills Mayweather has reached is that level (and I am not talking about defensive skills only), but his power is not there, and we dont know about his heart. So it cant be someone like him either. Someone like Roberto Duran lacked the discipline. I could go on with something for every fighter I know but one: Joe Gans, but he is so far back in time and I have seen footage from only one fight, the rest is words and pictures.
(please note 2. does not imply that I rate Mayweather above or equal to Robinson)Comment

ok so if he say "im the greatest boxer ever" instead of "im the greatest fighter ever" does that make it a world of a diffrence.....
because to me, boxing is just that... BOXING and to me you dont have to have 1 punch knockout power to be the best boxer
me personally, i think roy jones is the best... and thats just me, but we will never know who the best EVER is, its all opinions... some will say tyson prime.. some will say dempsy i mean, the list goes on
but as of right now, 2006... floyd is the best boxer in the world, and until he lose yall cant take that from himComment

That was some funny ****. I don't think Floyd had the right to insult Larry Merchant's job, though I guess it's ok to let a fighter speak his mind back when Merchant goes abit too far. I mean sure, Merchant hates technical fights and prefers a slugfest in like 99.9% of the fights he watches, though he can be abit critical when a man is clearly under control of the fight and doing what he does best, and yet get's disapproved by a professional commentator like Merchant.

i agree with this comment. floyd mayweather is the best boxer alive in my book and even if he does lose, he will still be the best because i don't see him losing easily first of all, and he perserveres better than any active boxer in the professional sport that i've seen.ok so if he say "im the greatest boxer ever" instead of "im the greatest fighter ever" does that make it a world of a diffrence.....
