I think chances are that KEssler will be undisputed no1 whether or not Calzaghe fights him. Imo. Kessler is in the fast lane, where Calzaghe has been in the slow lane his entire carreer. Kessler used less than 2 years to unify. Calzaghe used his entire career while clinging on to his precious WBO-belt.
When everything is said and done - I think Kessler's light will burn far brighter than Calzaghe's. So if Calzaghe was smart he takes the fight, because if he doesn't I truely think Kessler has to **** up quite a lot in order not to do better than having the WBO blet for 9 years and beating up the pucker tuckwell's of this world. While nothing is guaranteed, everything points in the direction that Kessler will go on to have a brighter carreer than what Joe has had.
One way Joe could ride that wave and to some extent make up for his own unwillingness to go abroad and to fight the best fighters, is to meet Kessler and beat him. That way Joe would get some credit every time Mikkel achieves something.
If Joe doesn't do every thing in his power to make the Kessler-fight happen - then he will just have cut the best lifeline he has to a better legacy. And people will know that he is the one that could make the fight happen and he will of course be looked at as a fighter that was unwilling to meet the best.
Joe imo. needs Kessler far more than Kessler needs Joe - the sad thing is that Joe either doesn't realize this or only cares about money here and now. also Kessler is the one trying and trying to make this happen, while Joe would rather fight a 42-year old retired fighter, another middleweight or the runner-up from a reality TV-show. Way to go Joe..

Beyer was nothing, he just proved to the fans that he wasn't a flop, he was predicted by 90% of the fans to KO him, and he did.
Superchamp? My ass.
Don´t judge Calzaghe on one fight, and the same thing for Kessler.. Beyer was his easyest fight in a long time, but he is allways quite impressive..
You never know with Calzaghe, he has far to many ups and downs in my book, to be called the best smw in the world..Last edited by Peder; 10-30-2006, 03:03 AM.

If you do not call Joe Calzaghe the best SMW in the world then you are an utter fool. Either that or you are up to your nuts in Kessler's guts.
Christ, some people have simply no appreciation for this sport and are just glorified fanboys. Stick to your playstations kids.

And, if he is THIS good, why doesnīt he prove it?
Overall, JC is the best SMW, in light of the opposition he has fought. Ok, you can argue they were not fights against Jones or Hopkins or Sven, but the opposition were still considerably tougher than Kessler. This debate will hopefully be finally settled in February or March 2007.

And, my reason for being a danish kessler fan i quite simple.. I had the opportunity to watch all of Kesslers fights, and alot of the big fights from around the world as well, that is a small bonus you get from living here.
I do think Calzaghe is good, but ivé seen one better.. Thats it. To say i just pick Kessler because he´s a Dane i pure bull****.

He's faced plenty of very good fighters in his career already and beaten most of them impressively. Admittedly most of them came in the first half of his career but they are there none the less. Joe had beaten better fighters after 25 or so fights than Kessler has after 38.
Sorry but beating up on a 35 year old Beyer and bums like Siaca and Mundine doesn't put you ahead of the guy who's been widely regarded as the best in the division for the last 9 years. Not even close. The only one who needs to prove anything is Kessler. I can't believe he holds 2 belts with his resume.

Just as an after thought to that post, its worth considering that a win over a faded Eubank is more impressive than a win over a faded Beyer.
