What alot of you dont understand is that because of Oscar De La Hoya's olympic career representing the USA in boxing, most people outside this of this place view him as an american fighter. Kind of like how Zidane/Henry are to the french in soccer. I remember being in japan and talking about boxing with some people i met and they spoke of DLH being their "favorite american boxer", because if thats where he was born and if thats the country he represented in the olympics, then no matter what as far as his nationality thats what he is, you dont get a pass because your parents are from somewhere else. So many people try so hard to seperate themselves from being american, by trying to create their own identidy rather than fulfill the status quo, but people dont realize there is nothing more american than going against the grain in the first place.

And if i ****in hear one more time somebody tell me david ortiz isnt ****ing black im gonna explode. Roberto Clemente is a puerto rican hero, but even he knew he was black and often spoke of it during his time here in america playing baseball, nationality isnt your race, why do you think there are so many chinese people in panama? Are they all of the sudden not asian because thats where they reside? You still are what you are and Columbian/Puerto Rican/Cuban ARE NOT RACES, because if thats the case every country in the world is its own race

Im not white IM IRISH! Im not black, IM ENGLISH, Im not asian, IM JAPANESE, Im not arab, IM SAUDI ARABIAN, im not persian, IM IRANIAN etc etc

I have had black puerto ricans swear to me they weren't black and I have had to laugh. Just like I know Mexicans that tell people they are Spanish. It seems alot of people are ashamed to be called Americans.

Its so rediculous for the topic creator to claim "american ISNT A RACE" when he is staking claim for individual countries to qualify as race, you cant just claim a theory out of conveinence and then deny it when it applies to something else, the theory is ****** to begin with, but alot of people really do bielieve that ****. Countries are not races, they are countries and countries/names/rulers/people evolve with the times.

And i know what you mean about black people from those places denying who they are because alot of that comes down to a culture to be more "white" in those places. Black people are looked down upon in the latin world in some instances and some of them strive not to be black no matter what. But then they come to america and realize that your black as hell and there aint nothing you can do about it. I have been to puerto rico and some people deny it, and some people dont.

Thats why i like brazil, nobody denies a ****in thing out there.

What does that have to do with him being born on american soil, being raised on american soil, and representing america on the world stage? there is nothing more american than that.

one thing i will say is that if your white, learn to speak the language, i saw alot of white european tourists gettin jacked just for looking like they didint belong...by other white/black brazillian gangster types, in broad daylight. knowing the language and fitting in is kind of critical if you immediately look like an ********. i dont speak very much portugese, but i was lucky enough to have someone with me who did.

the rudest place to people who dont the speak the language ive ever been to is france, easily. If i didint speak french id be ****ed because the general population is very very ****ing rude to americans/the english especially.
