Saw some Kessler fights..

Cummings and Porras.

He seems very sound, nothing spectacular, nothing special, but very sound. He controls things with his jab, has strong focus.. he's a fast, compact puncher and always brings his hand back in guard very fast. I like his short left hook, rarely misses and really difficult to counter.

He'd be totally overwhelmed by the prime Calzaghe of 10 years ago or five years ago though. He might beat the extremely weakened Calzaghe at 168 these days, but at 175 Joe takes him out. I hope Calzaghe fights Woods next and then gives Kessler a shot at 175, because he's too weakened to fight well at 168 these days.

Btw, Kessler dealt with Cummings and Porras every bit as well as Steve Collins and Carl Froch did respectively.

I have no doubt Kessler will price himself out - according to Warren.

Next fight for Calzaghe will be Ashira II or something.
Everyone else will price themselves out.

Kessler and his people want this fight in the worst WORST way. It's their best shot to bringing Kessler to a large audience. They think he's that good and they've built him to this moment.

"I'm not interested in winning a super middleweight championship," Hopkins told me. "Calzaghe's a good fighter, but I can't bring a Calzaghe fight to Jeannette [Hopkins' wife]. I was surprised she went along with the heavyweight thing, but she saw Maskaev fight three times on TV, against [David] Tua and twice against [Hasim] Rahman. She said, 'If you get hit, you're done, but you can get away from him because you have the speed.' "

Oh, please. This sanitized version of Hopkins is a crushing bore.

He's been a bastard to negotiate with his whole career, now that people are respecting him more than ever, you won't see him in a fight in which he's actually favored to come off worse.

This guy turned away from the advice of Bouie Fisher to ask his wife what she reckons to it all.

At the end of the day, Calzaghe is the best in his division of the last 10 years by miles.. so Kessler should feel honoured and privaleged if Calzaghe gave him a shot.

But could anybody blame Calzaghe if he chose Bernard Hopkins at Madison Square Garden at light-heavyweight over Mikkel Kessler in Denmark at super-middleweight?

Some would.

I like the way it would be Calzaghe's fault if the fight didn't take place. Last time I checked it takes both parties to agree terms. I wonder what Kessler's team is going to do now they hold two belts ... demand half the purse? Can't see that happening.

I have a feeling that for this one to take place it'll need to be somewhere big and probably in the UK .... looks like the Millennium Stadium then.
