And what exactly does Clottey bring to the table over Williams that would make Margarito skip his MANDATORY to fight Clottey?

I honestly don't think that Margarito is afraid of Williams. I mean Floyd won't fight him because he says he hasn't fought anyone, well what does fighting a green Williams do to change that? Don't get me wrong I think Williams is extremely talented and has potential to be very good, but he hasn't done a whole lot to establish himself as completely legit at this point in his career. I am not saying that Margarito shouldn't fight him, because I think he should. Maybe Marg is thinking along the lines of building his name. I know that Williams name is pretty big right now, but I think people are jumping on the bandwagon a little early. I mean I like Williams but I want wait and see how he does against better competition. I will give him props for wanting to step up and fight Marg though, but I honestly don't think Marg is afraid of him.

Clottey isn't as green as williams and he is more established at this point in his career. I think Williams is very talented with a lot of potential but he's still a little green. What makes Williams different than when Margarito fighting Cintron. Everyone says that Cintron was green when at the time he was considered one of the promising young welters. I'm not saying he wasn't but what makes williams more legit? How does fighting Williams all of a sudden give Marg more credibility for a fight with Floyd?

Well for one, it's get his mandatory out of the way. If you want a big fight with the big names, you erase all obstacles. Margarito ain't doing that and he ain't making himself mandatory to any other belt or any other big name by fighting Clottey. he is not taking a step forward in the direction of getting that big $$$, he is creating more steps for himself.

I'm not saying he shouldn't fight Williams, I agree he should. I also agree that by not fighting him, he is hurting himself more than helping but I don't see how all of a sudden it makes Floyd look at him as being legit enough for a fight. **** Floyd claims he doesn't even know who Williams is.

It really aint got nothing to do with floyd. Floyd is just the means to the end. Margo wants the big pay day, and he sees floyd as the best options to get him that payday. So it shouldn't be about fighting Floyd, it should be about making yourself unavoidable to these other big names, something he ain't doing.

i don't think he's scared, I think Cintron's way better and he walked right through Cintron. They're giving Williams a little more exposure by putting him in there against a total bum in national TV so they can make better money off the fight. It would be interesting to see if people who consider Williams a ducked mandatory, then consider him a young prospect after the fight with Margarito.

I completely agree with you gerardofpr. Even if Marg were to fight Williams all of a sudden he would be considered a young prospect that was green and unproven, just the way Cintron was cosidered.

It does have to do with Floyd because Marg is trying to build his status so Floyd will fight him, which I don't think thats ever gonna happen. You can't criticize Marg for avoiding people when Floyd is did the same excat thing. You can't say it about one and not the other. The difference with Floyd is that people try to make excuses and justify it.
