Barrett is a decent B level fighter who has lost in pretty much every big fight he has had........We respect your opinion and like you said you are no Boxing guru so just trust us when we say he will be beaten soon......unless he keeps fighting these types of opponents. No doubt he is big and strong but he will never be a great fighter.
Nikolay Valuev - The next big thing!

Sorry, but I don't get it. What class is he fighting now? And what's the organization he needs to fight in to win the heavyweight championship of the world? The same Belt that Tyson held?
Is that WBA? ..
Regarding Barrett.. he's 6'3" ..
W 31 (17 ko's) | L 5 | D 0 | Total 36
He hasn't lost every fight. He has won most of his fights and most by KO.
"In August of 1996, Barrett made his professional debut in Yonkers, N.Y., in spectacular fashion by knocking out Jamal Edward in one round. This was followed by 20 straight wins including victories over former world heavyweight champion Greg Page and former heavyweight contender Phil Jackson. The win over Jackson gave Barrett the World Boxing Council Continental Americas heavyweight title.
This title catapulted Barrett into the world heavyweight title picture. The eyes of the boxing world were now zooming in on him."Comment

He said every BIG fight that Barrett has been in, he's lost.
Including losses to:
Klitchko
Rahman
and Joe Mesi.
And yes Tyson held the WBA, as well as the WBC and IBF belts.
Valuev just holds the WBA.Last edited by deliveryman; 10-10-2006, 12:01 PM.Comment

What I don't understand is:
You admittedly know absolutely nothing about the sport.
Yet you try and argue against people that are boxing fanatics.
You're making yourself sound dumber and more ignorant by every post.
... Do you see me arguing neurology with a brain surgeon?Comment

Just watch clips of him. All he could do was box. He was a technical outside boxer. I mean he wasn't Robinson, but he was better and more skilled than say Michael Grant IMO.
I would rate Carnera's skill above Valuev's. Valuev hits much harder however.Comment

Ok, no need to get insulting -- it's called conversation. If you can't find convincing words to back what you say against a newbie, then maybe you should throw the towel in
I'm not "arguing" anyway -- so chill. Just saying what I think about Valuev. No one has said anything to convince me otherwise yet, although I have asked repeated questions and shown a willingness to hear useful information.
That's the fight I was talking about with Tyson. Tyson was a good boxer.. no matter what anyone says. But he was beat -- you know why? One reason, and one reason alone. Size. Now this guy WAS a nobody -- and Tyson quit on his stool because he was exhausted.
I think Valuev will win just the same way. He'll just keep exhausting his opponents. He doesn't have to know how to box. All he has to know is how not to get hurt, and with an 85" reach, that's not all that hard.
Also, just because I admit I'm a newbie, it doesn't give anyone a license for low blows (so to speak).. so, I'm new here and I don't know a whole lot about boxing, but if you can't make a case without just attacking the fact that I'm new here then your useless at convincing anyone letalone a newbie.
Like I said, I am not here to argue, but I'd really like to be able to continue this thread and ask questions and say what I think without trippers whining about me being new. It's just weak if you ask me.
I might not be a boxing guru, but I'm not a total ****** either. It doesn't take much of a brain to work out that when someone is standing a foot over you and weights another 100 pounds that if your face collects too many of their punches you're going to hit the floor -- PERIOD. And like I said -- Valuev has a bit of speed about him. Look on youtube.. there are several instances where I can point out that he made a barrage of punches in quick succession - even in late rounds while his opponents have been jumping all over the place to keep up are absolutely exhausted.Comment

Actually Valuev isn't a terrible boxer. My only question is how he will take a puncher from a serious hitter like Sam Peter or Wlad Klitschko. Remember that the hardest puncher he's faced so far is Ruiz. If he can take Wlad's punch, he will likely beat anyone alive today.Comment

Also Tyson didn't lose to McBride because he was too small, it was because he was too old and had no desire to train anymore. The guy was well, well past his prime. He easily KO'ed bigger and much better men than McBride in his prime.Comment
