I'd go as far to say that Chris Eubank recieved more attention than any man in the whole of Britain between Sept '90 and Dec '91, and I'd even go as far to say that Frank Bruno was the most well-known man in Britain of the 80's and 90's.

Great post John, you have a way of containing your temper in here then I do and you still say whats up. I never fought a ten round fight nor a twelve round fight. I stepped out early for my own reasons. But I still paid my dues the whole way through, a boxer can not continue if he does not pay his dues (You Know what Im sayin) Some of the people that rip and ridicule have no idea of the hours, days, weeks and ultimately years these men have spent learning to fight. I have amatuers on here tell me that they will knock me out or that can box better and I tell them that they havent even stepped into a real dog fight yet.
In the gym is where alot of experience is gained but even that takes time to easily translate into the paid ring, with the lights, people and the adrenaline. You know that you dont have to take that garbage from those that love to play in it, you straight out paid your dues and fought some of the best. I am curious though, do you suffer from headaches even today?
Tom Johnson was a really nice guy. We got talking one time and we were going to right his book. Somebody in an earlier post had mentioned the word adversity while using Toms name. That is what Tom wanted to use as the title, "Adversity On Top of Adversity." Thats when you were there wasnt it, when Tom owned it?

A lot of these posters would be amazed at how awesome a lot of these boxers they call 'bums' actually look in the gym, and how they couldn't even tie these guys laces if they tried.
A world-class professional boxer is ****ing Elite. Heck, a British title standard boxer has astounding skills in the gym (compared to your average Joe), if you saw them in person doing their stuff. Believe me.Comment

They have astounding skills period, an average Joe would not stand a chance in the gym or the street. These men have spent a great portion of there lives learning to fight with their fists. An average Joe walks up to Randy Johnson and hands him a brand new baseball. In the mans hand he hold a louisville slugger. He tell Johnson to stay where he is and the man runs appoximately 90 feet from Johnson and says let it rip. What do you think would happen.......... same thing with the fighter. Average Joe has struck out.

TRUE, VERY TRUE! I was going to say..... I write a lot about this in my book..... there are guys who could spar with a Jones, Mayweather, Mosley, Trinidad etc. that you never heard of and if you saw them go at it in the gym u would be amazed...the SKILLS are there...even though they don't always translate to the circumstances of real fights...CIRCUMSTANCES and how guys react to them make a huge difference but in terms of actual skills I know guys that have average records and/or are unknowns that can do things in the gym that would make your eyes pop and your jaw drop.Comment

I never knew how hard it is intell I tried it.
It hard to be at the top as well its hard to the best. Every fighter in the ring is dangerous if its his first fight or title holder with his 20th title defense. That is why Mayweather is undeafted beacuse he takes each fighter very serouisly and trains for him like no other fight and that what makes him in the top.
It pretty easy critize fighters but who are use to judge if we ourself dont know the nature of the sport and we just see the spotlight.
But that is human nature we just wanna critize so we could make ourself feel good even if we accoplish far less than them.Comment
