    See?????

FROM NATE DOOG: "personaly i think he was a piee of **** that fought grampa,s and neva gonna be,s i do realise he beat k. kelly but barrera is a great fighter and he made him look silly does anybody else feel the same."

See, I usually don't go off.... but MAN these kinds of posts from people that are supposed to be boxing fans... do you even WATCH boxing, study it? Or do you just follow the Barrera's the Jones's, Trinidad's, Mayweathers' etc??? I mean, do you have ANY CLUE whatsoever what it takes for guys like Tom Johnson, Manny Medina, etc., have to do to win so many PROFESSIONAL fights? Do you not realize that just because isnt undefeated, famous, a millionaire or a household name that it doesnt mean he isnt GOOD? Have you ever even really followed the careers of guys like Tom Johnson (a TKO victim of Naseem's)?? Guys like you, man, you comeonhere and basically insult a group of thirty or more guys bysaying what you say and you think-nothing of it, you have no idea of what you speak but you exercise your right to free speeech by coming here and lumping a bunch of guys together that you wouldn't even know by face if they walked up to you and stepped on your foot. I could name you twenty guys that can fight their behinds off, guys with what you would call average records, guys you would label nobody's, bums, scrubs, etc. but they are still guys that can FIGHT. You think hamed just walked in and fought a these esy guys and the results were a foregone conclusion each and every time, that the guys couldnt even hold their hands up properly or something? Basically... it comes down to fly-by night "boxing fans" that truly have little to no idea what type of talent and heart, toughness etc it takes to even be a ten and twelve round professional on that level. You look at topfighters and critique their past opposition and dismiss them so quickly and easily, you scan their records on boxrec looking for recognizable names and when you don't see them you dismiss the guys as nothing because YOU never heard of them or because they dont have a record as shiny and glossy as woul dneed be for you to even rate them. Get mad if you want to but it is TIME that someone step in and straighten this craziness out at least one time.... you can't just look at boxrec and think you have gained some real insight into a fighter, his opponents, their records.. the things you reall yneed to know aren't things you can read on a bout sheet or a record on some website. Have SOME respect at least for a ten and twelve round fighter, a guy that has fought in more fights than you have even watched.

Well, there haven't been any real household names over the world in the sport of boxing other than Ali, Tyson and Eubank. Although, like David Beckham, Eubank wasn't known in the States. I'm guessing (or I'm pretty sure) that Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson are the only fully established household names in the States?

In Britain, the only full-on household names are Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, Frank Bruno and Chris Eubank - the next bracket would be Henry Cooper, Barry McGuigan, Amir Khan, and I suppose John Conteh, Alan Minter, Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Sugar Ray Leonard, 'Prince Naseem' in 94/95.. and then your Lennox Lewis's, Audley Harrison's, and not far behind Nigel Benn.

ice - that was a great post made with a great point. too bad that your point will go over so many peoples' heads. either that, or some people will chose to ignore it because they know no better.

J... I was very aware even as I was writing it that most will not get it, will disagree with it and will bad mouth ME as a result of it. But letting statements like that just continually slide by is worse than the backlash I will receive...from the very people the post was aimed at in the first place. I am glad you understood it, though.

Nice post John. Hope that peeps will learn lessons from former fighters of this forum and get insights that only REAL fighters can give. I say people should respect anyone who has the balls to go into the ring and fight at the risk of being maimed or even killed sometimes. My question to armchair warriors like me who are fond of insulting fighters is, "have you ever tried fighting in the ring?".

Danny Romero (Naz thoroughly dominated him in July '90), Michael Brodie (Naz scored a 30-second KO on Brodie in his last amateur fight), and Vincenzo Belcastro, Freddy Cruz, Laureano Ramirez Padilla, Juan Polo Perez - all proved world-class fighters before Naz even fought for a world title.. Steve Robinson, Manuel Medina, Tom Johnson, Kevin Kelley, Wilfredo Vasquez (WBA champion), Wayne McCullough, Paul Ingle, Cesar Soto, Vuyani Bungu (his last 14 fights were world title wins), Augie Sanchez (beat Floyd Mayweather in the amateurs)..

Naz beat loads of really good fighters!

and it took him only one lose against barrera to retire from boxing while barrera rose like a phoenix after losing against pac. Wonder why naz did not comeback.
