    Just watched gatti/baldomir again

I was there live and i saw the highlights on youtube, but i just watched and scored the bout for the first time very carefully. What I saw was a Gatti who's lack of speed cannot be made up for by his relative power(power that isnt there at welterweight):he should drop down and fight hatton for retirement(he'll lose, but we'll get 2 good rounds of mayhem Having said that, on my scorecard AND the scorecard of the skysports announcers Gatti was leading the fight by 1 round going into the 9th, where he made some ****** mistakes and got ko'ed. While I'm a huge gatti fan, im glad he didnt win only to take another trouncing from PBF. HOWEVER, gatti was absolutely in that fight vs Baldy and he can still be a competitive and entertaining boxer, particularly at a lower weight. Plus dont forget that he beat Damgaard before this.

Only reason for people to say that "he's finished" is out of concern for his already battered brain(probably not much left at this point ). He can still fight judah(would be a massacre but Gatti has a punchers chance), Hatton at the lower weight, or this Salita guy. One last retirement fight, and let the world know that this is it. Gatti deserves a formal retirement, not just to fade into oblivion like the rest of the rabble.

Wow, somebody had the same scoredcard as me, too.

Yeah, he was definately in the fight, but Baldy's pressure was getting to him.

        gatti winning?

        jesus christ!

i wanted him to win, but no way was he winning. he won maybe 3 of the previous 8 rounds....being generous to him.

plus gatti is not some small guy. he was killing himself to make 140, and even weighed in on the scale at 160 on the night of a fight.....in 2000.

baldomir is just tough and takes punches well.

Please. Gatti - Baldomir was a ****ing Massacre. There is no way in hell the Gatti was winning that fight.

I wouldn't wanna see a Gatti - Hatton fight. That would be eight rounds of holding and weak uppercuts. Who the hell wants to see that?

I chose not to watch that fight and still haven't seen it. I really like Gatti. I recognize that he wasn't the best fighter, but something about cheering for the underdog always appealed to me. He always seemed like he had a chance to come from behind. I think he just had a bit of a "regular guy" quality that people can identify with. It's inspiring to see him get knocked down and mutilated and come back to win like he did against Rodriguez. That said, I watched the Damgaard fight and at first I was really happy because he pulled off the win and really gave Damgaard a pounding. Then as I watched it again, I kind of noticed how Gatti looked desperate at times, and would get caught on the ropes under pressure. He seemed to be fighting on pure willpower at times, like he was running out of gas. He couldn't keep Damgaard off him and his legs seemed to have slowed down and he wasn't able to move off the ropes without taking shots first. Some of his handspeed was lost, so his jab didn't look as effective as it had before. Even though Damgaard didn't seem to throw to hard, he still seemed to be able to hurt Gatti and freeze him with some shots on the ropes. Gatti took uneccessary shots and the only way Gatti could get him off was to swing as hard as he could. I knew Baldomir was basically a better version of Damgaard. He was bigger, would take a better punch and would throw a better punch. It just seemed like Gatti strugged with Damgaard enough, even though he butchered the guys face, that he would have a really tough time with Baldomir. I knew he'd lose because he wouldn't be able to handle the pressure when Baldomir turned it on. I really think Gatti is done. His chin is gone. He seems ok early in fights, but when he gets hit, it's not his chin holding him up, it's his determination. He just freezes like he has to put all of his effort into not falling over, and he keeps getting hit. Once he starts gettin hit, his legs go quickly, and he starts plodding and the only thing he can do is punch as hard as possible. At welterweight, against bigger guys, it just won't work out for him. He didn't have the dedication early in his career to stay in good shape between fights. He wasted his prime and took too much damage in the process. If he fights one more, it should be an easy fight just so his fans can see him pull off one more win before he goes, but I honestly think he should just stop. It's sad to see a guy people like leave on a knockout loss, but it's the best for him.

No way was Gatti winning the fight. He won like 2 rounds. Maybe 3 if lucky. Gatti could have won if he knew how to box but he stayed right in there and got his ass layed down. It looks like the last KD he lost his balance though, but then again I only saw it once.

I like Gatti too, but this thread is a joke!..He was getting his ass kicked both in the ring and on the scorecards...I don't know if he would have had 2 or 3 rounds to his name for that fight!...

That was one methodical fight where Baldy just kept getting bigger and bigger, whilst Gatti did the oppposite!!
