i mean i just want a degree and a good ***ing job.
I'm not gonna say it on this board mate, but I know your background and it doesn't fit with boxing, does it?

There's nothing big or clever about getting whacked in the head. Full respect to those that do it for our entertainment, but if you want a degree, getting punched in the brain isn't a good way to get it, is it?

    Maybe try a different gym?

      Yep, I agree.

I just always get turned off by the "you need to box..." debate by the sheer number of dumb ass punk kids that can't string two sentences together on this site yet think they're in a heirachy cos they got punched in the face by John down the local gym.

It feels like you are being used as a punching bag, until you gain experience and use everyone else as a punching bag.

Its funny actually, somebody who my mum knows boxes at my club. She came up to me and said "so do you know [boys name]"... "yeah I know him... I stopped him in sparring".

How satisfying it is to know that... thats half the reason I box. However im modest around my friends about it. Like some girl said to me "yeah but you box, you could like have anyone here" and I said "no, not necessarily, its more complicated". She looked at me like -- stop being modest. But its the truth... Oh well some people automatically assume if you box you can fight on the streets. Its all about respect, and I love that respect. In return I repay my respects...

Have a word with them. They used to keep putting me in the ring with a boy who was like 10kg heavier than me... I didnt say anything, even though I was being battered by his experience, ring domination, excellent timing and all the rest of it. They soon figured that I was learning jack ****, and now put me in with boys that are heavier still but with different styles and not so short fuses.

im just going to explode one day and just fight the bastard, (in-fighting) pushing him about. and maybe utilise my legs and kick the bastard.

i throw less and less shots now. if my jab dont land. i ***** out and end up getting 'had up' my footwork is crap now aswell. before it was ok. nows its step step jab back up, get hit loads.

              i dunno..

Step in jab, if you miss --> roll.

Alternatively step in jab, if you miss --> step out in the same direction you came in. And circle out.

Ive lost weight and feel alot stronger. But sparring and fighting in the ring isnt my cup of tea.

I keep getting hit. and i think they just 'use me' as a sparring partner. I mean im up against some top guys. But its hard coz im 5"11 180lbs. So they just put me agaisnt big hitters. And i dont like it when they hit me hard in the face. I always seem to turn my head. However on good days ive held my own in sparring. edit; geting that amature fight makes you a legit boxer even if thats your only amature fight, at least thats what we used to go by in the city where the Aztec roams.

Would I be considered a ***** if I stopped boxing and just went to a gym to stay in trim? I still want to follow boxing. Just not take part. Im really debating this as im going to Uni soon.

I mean i think ive learnt alot from boxing in that time. At least ill be able to look after myself on the street if i need too.

Question remains. Can you follow boxing if you dont train and sparr?
If your goal was to join a gym to get an amature fight, then you're ****ed! Get that amature fight first. Then if you think its not for you then you are allowed to just work out at the gym.

edit; as for the you last question, yes, you can.

When i have been relaxed in the ring i havent kicked ass ive been alot looser and have landed more.

its just that after todays sparring. my head was hurting and i didnt enjoy my dinner.

getting your ass kicked is the best thing for you. if your smart, you'll take away so much from it. but if you're really not enjoying it, why bother? you don't have to prove anything to anyone, you know?
