Why Hatton would beat Mayweather at 140..

Not only does he have superb balance, a beautiful darting jab, splendidly quick hands and feet and frightening timing at times, but he's much stronger than Mayweather and has abnormal stamina (due to a hole in his heart) that allows him to fight bell-to-bell in every round and remain strong. I don't believe Ricky would be too focussed on his finesse in a Mayweather bout, he'll be focussing on speed at closing the distance and breaking rythm, while looking to frustrate Mayweather into leaving himself open to body shots.

He's famous for his body punching ofcourse, with 20+ KO's coming from the left hook to the body, and IMO no former super-featherweight could withstand Hatton's body shots. So for Mayweather to win this fight, he'd need to use a very high punch output (to keep Hatton off him) and dictate from ring centre (because he can't let Hatton get him to the ropes where he'd tee off from angles). But Hatton stood next to Mayweather in Las Vegas last year and says he doesn't know how Mayweather could really keep him off him, because he was quite suprised at how much naturally physically thicker he was to Mayweather.

He has no respect for Mayweather's strength and power, and will be looking to throw him off with a very fast tempo, as well as giving him a lot to think about with feints, footwork, angles, jabs and clinches. As for the body punches, he has developed techniques to land them on anybody - for example he clinches occasionally after burrying his head into a man's chest if he needs a rest, but then moves back slightly and unloads with bombs to the hips. Unless a referee is particularly strict on clinching or something, Hatton has developed this ability to clinch and move out at the right time to land to the body with momentum. And watch over the last few years if Ricky is having trouble with somebody at a certain point he'll hold his hands over his face in a high guard and then simply push through, using sheer strength to get his man on the ropes and then tee off on him with some serious ****.

Those are some great qualities Hatton has, but against a superb boxer like Floyd, who can also fight all 12 rounds and is one of the most intelligent fighters in the game, is a different story. PBF has one of the most underrated jabs in boxing and a stiff right hand that seems to come out of nowhere. He's got very good laterlal movement and foot work, so its not that easy to corner him and mug him.

stylewise hatton is the right man for beating floyd

      will he do it?

will the bodypunching he "developed", work as fine as everything mayw developed? we'll (hopefully) see

All those Qualities you pointed out were against whom? Yes, Hatton looked impressive earlier in his career but against D level competition.

In his last 2 fights versus a C level Maussa and a C+/B level Collazo Hatton has not been able to utilize any of the affore mentioned qualities.

PBF has proven his ability versus B+/A level fighters in Corrales, Castillo and Zab (The Zab that fought PBF was a B/B+ fighter).

People say this as if 140 is Hattons best weight but not Floyds, I see Floyd winning this fight 9/10. It would still be a great fight, & the thing about boxing is that anything could happen & most likely will

I know Mayweather has no stamina problems, some of the sparring stories I hear (15-minute rounds with different partners coming in and all that) are sick. But I'm talking Tempo, Mayweather won't be at his best at a tempo he's not comfortable with - and Hatton has no fear of Mayweather's punch, he believes Mayweather can't hurt him.

At 140, Mayweather KO's Hatton in 9 rounds. Not TKO, a KO where Ricky is on his ass looking up at the lights.

Ricky Hatton has ZERO defensive skills. He just tries to smother you and the Castillo and Chavez fights are proof that a smothering style will get you nowhere with Mayweather.

Doesn't matter what Ricky believes. How many punches do you think he'll have to eat before he can't take them anymore? Ricky was hurt by Collazo, who is by no means a bigger puncher, and he was only throwing single shots the entire fight. Ricky isn't scared, no doubt, but his defense is so thin that too many punches will get through for him to "walk through". Ricky tried to walk through Collazo and almost got sent off with an "L"
