Who is/was better in their prime. Who was/is more skilled/talented. Personally, I call Roy, but I'm a fan and Pensacola native so let me hear some other opinions. So Shoot.
RJJ or PBF?

I think its not fair to judge yet because Floyd is still somewhat in his prime and like Floyd, people hate Roy so much that there dumb enough to forget how great he really was and will diss him.
Overall its hard to tell because there styles were so different. Roy was more flashier and did crazy stuff while Floyd was way more techniqal and better defensivley. Both guys were smart.
I'll give it to Roy right now until Floyd has a couple of more fightsComment

Quite frankly, Floyd needs just a few more big fights to be considered better than Roy in comparing the two during their best years.
Referring to the individual skills and strategies of both players though, everyone knows Jones' technique was mediocre at best; he was known for simply relying on his pure instincts and raw athleticism to beat his opponents to the canvas, while on the flip side, Mayweather's notable and often referred to strongest trait as a boxer is his rock-solid boxing technique. There within that debate lies the argument that Floyd is better than Roy.
Granted, the heavily expected and always mentioned criticism against Roy will be the lack of talent he faced in his prime, which undoubtedly comes as a valid argument. All this will be said despite the fact he did fight (and defeat) such current boxing legends in Bernard Hopkins and James Toney in the process, however, Roy never did give them a rematch, as talks always fell through for some reason or another (unfair financial splits, egos, etc.). It is because of that simple fact alone that so many fans were turned off with Roy Jones Jr. on the boxing scene.
A long ass post yes, but In the end, to sum it up, if Floyd were to beat Carlos Baldomir come November, and just so happened to beat De La Hoya (in their rumored May megafight matchup), then I'd say Mayweather had earned the right as the better boxer than Roy.
Until then, it's R.J. all the way.
[And yes, I am a RJ fan, but don't get me wrong, Floyd is a favorite boxer of mine as well.]Last edited by BodyHead Banger; 09-07-2006, 08:07 PM.Comment
