    On a purely technical level.

It's a grumpy thread, I'm in a bad mood, so hey.

The guy has almost zero boxing ability. I dread to think how powerful he could be if he was taught how to throw punches properly. He's got pop even without technique, and his chin appears first-class. In this day and age, that's enough... maybe.

But the guy has so little technical ability (though nice job on countering the counterpuncher at times on Saturday) that he makes Frank Bruno look like Muhammad Ali.

Off the top of my head I can't think of a single heavyweight on the same level as Peter that is technically worse, or even equal to his ability.

And before any spiteful piss-takers say it, Danny Williams is a MUCH better technical boxer than Sam Peter.

If Samuel Peter had any technical skills, with that power, no heavyweight at the moment could beat him (Current champions and contenders)

However he lacks that...I hope he gets a good trainer and tries to defend himself, he defends himself with his chin, and thats because hes a pretty good one.

He's as crude as one can possibly be, and still fight at this level, but that just tells you how naturally gifted he really is.

i saw improvement Saturday night, but that's probably because he's not fighting Wlad Klit. Peter had a pretty good jab vs Toney (short, likes to fight from the pocket) and had no jab vs Wlad (tall and fights from outside). Styles make fights.

Peter will look like his old destructive self once he has an opponent who is not hard to hit or a guy who will come to him.

Toney and Wlad are two of the very best in the world. I give him props for taking those fights.

The two things I want to see more of from Sam are killer instinct and better discipline in his training camp. The guy needs to really turn up the heat when he has an opponent hurt, and his physique just seems to get flabbier and less defined every fight.

The fact that this guy is so highly regarded, says everything about the heavyweight division. Some people think Ike Ibeabuchi is over hyped, but Ike was better in almost every department compared to Peter.

in the boxing technique department I agree. he's dismal,,but having a granite chin and punching power in the heavyweight division will give you notice and a good shot at a championship in a very weak era such as today. I do think he's a champion before next year

The thing is, Peter might well be a champion... getting past Toney was the hard part, getting past Maskaev is not. If Peter becomes champ, he's doing it on a false premise.

All this said, on Saturday night he: used a jab; tried (badly) a combination; turned southpaw; countered James Toney.

The last one was the most impressive for me (largely based on his reach advantage) and wasn't what I expected. So he IS improving... a bit.

He still lost the fight though.

It might be a lack of amatuer experience, plus a ****ty trainer...I can say the guy is "****ty" because I have seen no improvement with Peter as a boxer.

Well, like someone stated above, maybe it is somewhat fair to the other guys because if he knew how to box it might be a bit unfair...imagine if Foreman actually had a long amatuer career and had the brains that he had in his 2nd career in his first, that would have been something...maybe the boxing Gods give you one big gift, like Foreman having power, but make you work on the rest..you would think someone would have mentioned to Foreman, "Hey, ever think about using your legs for some more power?"

Somebody needs to tell Sam Peter to drop down to somewhere in the low 230's, and teach him how to actually fight

Seriously, just imagine if Wlad had an iron chin and great stamina, it might be great to watch at first, but might get a bit boring seeing him destroy one fighter after the other
