If he finishes his career well, then I have no issue with his name being up there.

But I just think it's - at best - overstating it to see someone who's just gone through Gatti/Mitchell/Judah and now possibly Baldomir as the GOAT.

What's all this "them and us" crap?

Look at who is left in front of Floyd... how much longer do you think he's going to go on for? He's already talking of retirement, so we can expect to see, at very best, maybe six more fights. If he fights the likes of Baldomir and the still relatively untested Cotto, does that really make him GOAT?

Bladomir's the Champ at 147, wether you like it or not, & Floyds accomplishments at 130 & 135 is enough for him to be mentioned with the greats, what he's done in the last few years doesn't take that away, I'm sure even SRR went a few fights against bums.

Oh sure, though I would raise an eyebrow at his exploits SO FAR making him a "great" rather than just "very good".

I think people get blinded to asthetics... Floyd looks superb, so they assume he must be.I'm not saying he's a write-off, far, far from it, but there's been too much pissing about with paper belts and non-competitive match-ups. Baldomir is a start because as you have said, he's the linear champ.

But take Hatton. Still relatively untested. If Floyd beats him, then it's an accomplishment, but it's hardly as if he's beaten a proven opponent. I'd be impressed by it, but hardly HOF material in and of itself.

Well Ali was starting to become washed up when he fought Wepner... But like someone already said nobody will come close to Sugar Ray Robinson. If he beats more of the great fighters out right now in his weightclass, then I'd say he is at least the greatest of his time.

well, I'd say if he retired today, he'd already be in the top 20, but if he wins more and more meaningful fights, it would be damn near impossible to exclude him from the 3 greatest ever. like I've said many times. He's fighting Baldomir, which will make him the 147lb champ in a cakewalk. then he can go to 154 and beat Spinks and Mosley and DLH and claim that crown. then if he were to beat the reigning middleweight champ, I think he's a lock for the top 3 greatest ever and a case could be made for the greatest of all time. but he has to do all that and retire undefeated.

You think he would go as high as middleweight? I think that would be a dangerous fight for Floyd at middleweight if he fought the champion(who'd probably be Taylor or somebody). I think he would lose a lot of speed on a small body. He's only 5'8. I don't think he is as strong and can really even hurt a middleweight. But then again, I've heard he has sparred with middleweights...

Ask yourself this....how many people can be the best of all time? 1. That's it. Meaning the other thousands and thousands of boxers out there are going to have settle for #2 behind SRR for quite sometime. I really can't say that Floyd would be ashamed to be a top 10 all time fighter if he runs his career right from here. No need to be ashamed of only being better than 99.9999999% of all boxers ever.
