You guys remember the story (from SI about 10-12 years ago) about De La Hoya, when he was real young, getting mugged, handing over his wallet but the guys drove back to find him once they looked at his ID and asked him to forgive them. I don't know if it's true but at least I think that is how he told it?

You can't walk alone on the streets in China with a rolex on and expect not to be mugged.

I live in China, well, in Hong Kong, but i go up to Shenzhen a lot. It's basically an unwritten law, you have to travel in groups of at least 6. Don't even get into a cab alone or anything, otherwise they drive you to nowhere, and a whole bunch of cab drivers surround you and demand you pay an extortionate fee. IF you pay, you're home free and they'll even drive you back to the city.

The point is, foreigners, especially whites, are targets for muggers and con artists in China.

Why whites? Is it because they don't know how things go in China and dont know not to carry alot of valuables? Or is it just a race thing?

Imagine being in a different country and getting sorrounded by thugs, u better give your **** up unless you wanna die. I remember of hearing a story of a boxer who refused to give his car keys to a carjacker and got shot in the chest. Not fatally though he might still be boxing.

If Hatton gave up his Rolex then I know one thing for sure.....They must've been WelterWeights otherwise Hatton would've used his great lateral movement and superior boxing skills to beat them all up ROFL

j/k, but seriously it would've been ****** of him to actually fight them, I mean what a 5-10k dollar watch could cost him a half a year or so if he was injured (in which time he could've had a fight or 2 and made a few million), his career could've been ended i.e. stabbed or shot, or even his life.

Hatton was he ****** for walking around alone in a foreign country where he looks nothing like a native but he was smart in just giving up the damn watch.

Hatton did the smart thing, if he resisted the likelihood is that he would have been shot or stabbed or even at best injured.

He is a professional sportsman, his body is his tool therefore he must protect it at all costs, by giving up the watch he gave himself the best chance!

After all he can easily replace that watch!
