You can't walk alone on the streets in China with a rolex on and expect not to be mugged.

I live in China, well, in Hong Kong, but i go up to Shenzhen a lot. It's basically an unwritten law, you have to travel in groups of at least 6. Don't even get into a cab alone or anything, otherwise they drive you to nowhere, and a whole bunch of cab drivers surround you and demand you pay an extortionate fee. IF you pay, you're home free and they'll even drive you back to the city.

The point is, foreigners, especially whites, are targets for muggers and con artists in China.

really, it's like that no matter where you go. either way, robbing from someone is weak no matter how many how people are involved.

You guys remember the story (from SI about 10-12 years ago) about De La Hoya, when he was real young, getting mugged, handing over his wallet but the guys drove back to find him once they looked at his ID and asked him to forgive them. I don't know if it's true but at least I think that is how he told it?
