Thoughts on Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship? Is it MMA or Boxing?

    Sup folks?

I have been following this organization more and more closely through the pandemic. The show last weekend is the first one I've watched live (stayed up all night in the UK and had 2 hours sleep before work to do so!).

Anybody else here really into it? And do you class it as MMA or Boxing?

Personally, I believe it should be classed under the Boxing umbrella. I know it is only young (the org, not bare-knuckle itself), and the divisions/championship rankings are very shallow depth-wise. But in time this is going to get bigger.

The Police Gazette is the ultimate living authority on all things boxing. I wish they'd report on gloved **** too, but, nah, they're just doing this BK ****.

My point is it's clearly boxing. They got boxing in the name, kicks are illegal, and the PG belts are back. For a history nerd it's ****ing exciting and I don't give a **** if Beltran is a ****ty old MMA guy. Especially since I hear Briggs is coming to BKFC. Cannon will own that ass.

I'm not sure how MMA BKFC is in rules, like if there's some standing wrestling allowed and such, but, proper Broughton, LPRR & Reivision BK rules allowed some level of wrestling and was really laxed. I doubt a commission on this planet would sign off on any sport as open as OG BK. So even if the rules are MMA-ish so were Sullivan to Figg's rule sets.

NP Dempsey was cut four inches by a cleat and a kick...BKFC ain't about to allow spiked shoes and kicks. It's pretty legit, just needs talent.

It's definitely boxing. The only legal strikes are punches.

I'm a big fan of BKFC and bare knuckle in general. The fights are fast-paced, there's nowhere to run or hide, you can punch in the clinch, and most fights end in stoppages.

Dat Nguyen is the best fighter in the game right now.

How long have you been following Boxing? Try the link I have provided for you. Boxing, for many years, was bare-knuckle. BKFC is going back to some of the earliest rules drawn up for the sport.

And if you claim knowledge but still choose to throw shade at the BKFC, just don't watch bro. Nobody forces you to do anything. Stay positive, it's a lot better for ya in the long run.

I have to be honest March, it was during a Heavyweight debate on here with you, when you wouldn't shut up about this "Beltran" dude and the Police Gazette, that I first checked out BKFC. Ever since then I've caught up on most of the fights since it's inception, have subscribed to the YouTube, I'm at the point now I'm hooked.

Another cool thing is, it's also got me more interested in the bare-knuckle fights in Boxing's past. Have spent hours researching fights and fighters from the 1800s that I had no interest in before watching the BKFC. Adds a very interesting crease to modern-day Boxing in my opinion.

Oh and I know he won't but I do secretly hope that after Fury wins Undisputed and before he's technically stripped he gets into that BKFC and gets him that PG belt too. One face, one name, any version of boxing; one champion. Then **** the WBO, Joshua, rematch, all that ****, just retire as the unbeaten two sport destroyer of men.

Not really because I need to see a cross sport champ so much as Fury's always on about his roots and Gypsy King this or that. Can't hardly praise your granddads while claiming BK is ****. Get that PG belt too son. PG and Ring ain't been unified. It'd be a historical first too. Ring didn't exist in Sullivan's era and PG stopped awarding belts by the 20s.

Nobody needs a historical lesson on bare knuckle. In fact martial arts had some of its prerequisites to harden ones bones when hitting solid things. But you know even old school Greeks used wraps. Bare knuckle is garbage imho. It exploits a fighter who is willing to break their hands during a fight by a single erroneous punch, and the pay geeks fighters whom are in dire need of the money. Bobby Gunn said it himself. He said when he fought Roy the impact of punches still hurt. I wonder if it was muscle memory trauma or just the way his bones had suffered. I’m just biased to protect hands. I go to the gym. Sometimes you might miss weeks waiting for one hand to recover to hit it proper, just using one hand on the bag, and any mitt work, forget it

David Feldman (the owner) said on their podcast last week that he'd be flying to Miami to make some huge signings this weekend, but I haven't heard any names so far.

I keep hoping for Shannon Briggs. In March of 2020 he called out former UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez (1-0 in BKFC) for a fight, then a month later it was announced that Briggs had signed with them, but nothing ever happened.

Briggs says he is in training right now for a fight in April but he hasn't said whether it's a standard gloved fight, a bare knuckle fight, or one of those Tyson-RJJ style geezer exhibitions. But I am hopeful it's BKFC since the Champ lives in Miami. Let's go Champ!

It's Boxing for sure. It has some moderations but it is completely under the rules of boxing.
