Pringle hit the nail on the head. Rafael has been undefeated in the last 6 years or so virtually all with impressive wins. Rafael is also younger than JMM and has defintely been improving.

Rafa's next few fights will show how good (or average) he really is.

Juans claim to fame is drawing with Manny PAcquiao. He hasn't beaten ANYONE NEARLY as good as Johnson or Austin. As for the "what have you done for me lately" category...

Juan has beaten a relative unknown in Jandaeng, lost closely to John, and decisioned a couple of journeymen in Polo and Salido.

Rafael knocked out two highly ranked contenders in Pastrana (ex-champ) and Ruiz (which was a higlight reel KO), decisioned a tough Ricardo Vargas, and stopped his #1 title challenger TWICE.

That's enough to give him a significant edge. He hasn't lost in years. Skill wise they are close....but Juan really hasn't done much besides hold a strap for a short time in the featherweight division.

Juan Manuel Marquez was already known before Pacquiao. In the West Coast everybody knows Juan Manuel and his brother Rafael. Juan Manuel and Barrera were both stars of the Great Western Fourm.

which makes A better than B?

              1. Quality of opposition - Juan Manuel
*Rafael only has Austin and Austin. Too Sharp? (he's a blown-up Flyweight!), Pastrana? (a Light Flyweight) impressive win/s tho.
*Juan Manuel has Norwood (controversial Loss), Mantecas Medina, Peden, Gainer, Pacquiao (draw), John (another controversial Loss)
              2. Overall Technical skill - Juan Manuel, hands down!
              3. an alphabet soup belt - Rafael, and remember Juan Manuel "lost" his IBF & WBA belts only by technicalities

              Juan Manuel Marquez.

lmao...you twisted this to make it seem like juan is beating world class guys with his recognized title while rafael and his paper belt was beating bums.

                again:

-johnson is a hall of famer, and one of the best little fighters of this decade. he and austin are INFINITELY BETTER than anyone you just named in juans win category.

-rafael hasn't lost in 5/6 years and has made 7 defenses of his IBF title against TOP rated contenders. he also STOPS his challengers CONVINCINGLY.

-rafael is the RECOGNIZED champion at bantamweight. juan as of right now is back to fighting C level oppponents. juan was only "champ" because the division was weak after barrera and morales left. he was always in their shadow. besides, he took his belts off an old manuel medina and i cant even remember who the other guy was.

...and Mark Johnson, no disrespect at all, will always be a small 5'3" blown-up Flyweight against a 5'7" bantamweight. he's one of the best Flyweights ever, that's where he made his mark, and he's going to the HOF for that.

and bottomline, JMM has fought six (6) world champions.

Well, as a fighter, JMM is. As a boxer, Rafael is.
