How many current title holders can you say are great?

Fighters nowadays are so entitled for championship belts and they are emboldened by the sanctioning bodies. I was not around in those days, but it would have been so cool if a fighter wanted to become champion he had to beat one champion of the weight class. Instead of having the option to beat like 5 different titleholders. With either 4 or all 5 of them being mediocre.

Like how many weight classes can you look at and say that more than one title holder is great?

HW...I would say I like both Fury and AJ.

    CW...Breidis is pretty good.

LHW...I think Beterbiev is the clear “great” fighter there.

    SMW...Canelo.

MW...GGG and Charlo are both good champs...Andrade and Murata not so much.

    SMW...Charlo is good.

WW...Spence and Crawford have to fight this one out. Spence at least beat Porter at 147.

JWW...Taylor and Ramirez are both good champs.

LW...Obviously loaded, and Teo beating Loma created more questions than answers. Teo is officially the Ring champ, but it’s a loaded division.

SFW...I think Davis is the best there. Although I doubt he fights at 130 again.

FW...Not sure about this one. Would have to see Russell fight someone with a pulse.

    SBW...not sure.

    BW...Inoue is a good champ.

Jr BW...I’d say Estrada. But a non title holder there, Rungvisai, I would say is equal to Estrada.

As for the rest, I do not follow fighters that are the average weight of a 15 year old female.

Excellent list, I more or less agree with every point...

I think it is clear that ginger balls is the stand out fighter of this decade so far.

Would be interesting to do this same exercise, but count how many belts sit with 'unworthy' guys.

      The sport is a mess.

The word "great" in boxing context carries a lot more weight. Off the back of accomplishments, I'd only have a few that I'd rank as, or near to, great –
        • Canelo
        • Usyk
        • Fury
        • Pac
        • Gonzales
        • Inoue

Obv Usyk isn't a champ at Heavy but he's had a great run through Cruiser.

From Middle Weight to Light Heavyweight there are no great champions.

Canelo Alvarez is not a all-time great middleweight.

If he was fighting in the 90's, he would still be fighting at 147-154, I don't think he would want to play about at middle weight etc

I hate arbitrary & subjective terms like "great" in boxing. Who gives a fook about it? Why give a fook?

All you can be without argument is the #1 guy in your division in real time. And it's usually pretty clear when you are that guy or in a dispute with 1 or 2 other guys for that spot.

Everything else is a bunch of mfers who usually ain't ever been in the ring getting hit in the head trying to diminish professional boxers for reasons I don't fully grasp.

None. Not one. Unless Pacman still holds a belt. None of them have found (or appear willing to) find their foil. Their epic opponent. A Duran to their Leonard. A JMM to their Paquiao. A Frazier to their Ali. Teofimo appears to be closest having recently beat Lomachenko but is now avoiding what would likely be a great rematch in favor of social media wars. The greatest potential is currently at 130-140 imo, but they will most probably just make alot of noise and not do much.
