because it would basically be an ineffective arm punch since you have no ground underneath you and have no way of distributing your weight into a punch with effectiveness.

Not only that but in mid air like that you're totally defenseless.

Maybe it's effective in MMA cause it fakes a kick? I don't know anything about that stuff though.

I've seen people try it in boxing a few times though and it looked dumb and did nothing.
